Hello All,
I am a new member and have attempted to read many of your posts on 150 series truck and in particular any posts about 2009 Kakadus.
I think now I am more confused than when I star
I have been looking to purchase a Prado for some time and now that I am getting close (I have a few options) I would appreciate some advice.
Firstly, Diesel v Petrol - I understand that this is an age-old debate and that there a pros/ cons for both however I wonder what resale will be like of a petrol in say 5 years time? I started out looking at diesel trucks however the power and smooth ride of a petrol is a nice option.
I am looking at a vehicle with around 120,000 - 130,000km so in 5 years time I think the mileage would be around 190,000km... Petrol trucks are cheaper now (and have no turbo issues etc) however petrol would cost around $1100 more per year to run. Is 190,000km in a diesel worth say $10,000 more than a petrol in 5 years time?
I don't tow a lot at this stage so that doesn't really factor into my thinking yet... I also currently drive a diesel sedan so don't have any issues with diesel cars from a power, handling and feel perspective.
I would appreciate any advice on re-sale value and people's experience and thoughts.
The second question I am debating is CRAWL v The Advanced Safety Pack... I enjoy 4WDing and have done so in my previous 4WDs however the wife unfortunately doesn't share my passion and apart from a few trips to Double Island, Fraser and maybe a few country campgrounds we won't be doing much actual real 4WDing.
Based on limited difficult driving and a young family the Advanced Safety Pack would be a better option. However, do people generally want the CRAWL pack from a resale perspective? The Safety Pack was a $2,500 extra when it came out but seems like a bit of a gimmick? Does anyone have advice on this please?
In terms of Kakadu v GXL - I really like the leather, sunroof and all the gear etc. I started looking at GXLs but jumped in a Kakadu and really liked the feel - so at this stage a GXL is not really where I am thinking.
So, in summary I have two options with about 120,000 - 130,000km on the clock:
1. A 2009 Diesel Kakadu with Advanced Safety Pack (no CRAWL), bull bar, tow bar, UHF etc.
2. A 2009 Petrol Kakadu with CRAWL with no extras.
The petrol is cheaper but not by much really. Both are in great condition and everything works...
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
