I think it's all a much of a muchness in those 3 brands. Whichever you get though make sure the ability to change channel/duplex mode is in the hand piece. Mine isn't and I regret it as you need to take your eyes off the road to change channel.

Yeah, x2. Used to have an old GME (TX3200) stuck in the glovebox and it was a real pain. Bought the Uniden 7760NB for this exact reason and the unit is now hidden away in the centre console. Handpiece is now the only visible piece. Don't use it much but my UHF HAD to have this feature...

I have had the GME 3540 in both my Prado and my Hilux for a year now. They were both upgrades from TX3200 40ch. Just having the hand piece on the dash is such a great step in vehicles that dont have a lot of spare available room for accessories.

Prado has the big GME aerial which has proven to have great range while we were in the Kimberlys last year, The Hilux just has the little rubber whip aerial which is ok as a shooting ute, mainly talking to hand helds, but still seems to be clear over reasonable distances
          Cheers

Depends on what you mean by that. To claim the Australian Made symbol they would have to be doing more than just putting all the PCBs into the box locally. My guess is that they assemble the PCB from individual components and do the mouldings here. For electronics in Australia there isn't much more that can be done - we don't make any of the individual components (resistors/caps/etc) here.

I've got the small digital GME, great size but sound quality isn't amazing. Much better than using the portables in the bush though.

Brining an old thread back so I don't create a new one.

I am looking at a new UHF and am thinking of the TX3550s which has the new SoundPath (speaker in microphone). Just wondering has anyone have one of these units or similar that has the speaker in the microphone? Just wondering if the volume is good and clear clarity of speech?

I went with the 8080S because the speaker is in the mic and the ability to scan the extra channels. No complaints. Sound from the mic is fine, and you can use both the main speaker and the mic speaker together for 'stereo' sound! Each speaker can be individually controlled for volume too.

What are the differences between the 8060s and 8080s? I was told today the 8080s is discontinued.

I recently fitted one of the new GME XRS handsets to mine, really happy with it. It's got bluetooth that can sync to your phone and can update itself with all of the police/emergency services channels wherever you go. While it is pretty pricy, they're a mile ahead of anything else I've used- Excellent sound, and being a remote unit everything is tucked away, which is important as I'm a bit of a neat freak.

I actually have 2 brand new XRS-370C (next model up) available for sale if anyone is interested. Bought them at a job lot auction a couple of months back. I have one in my car. Can not fault it and looks good too, blends in.

Only difference between the 330 and 370 is that the 370 has a speaker on the brain box as well as the hand piece, whereas mine just has a speaker on the hand piece. Seeing as I buried the box in the bowels of my dashboard I didn't think I'd need to have any speaker on it, although for those with different set ups it could be really good.
