  • **Aircon, Cruise Control and Engine Temp issues**

    I own a 2008 Prado 120 TDI 3.0L, which I have had for about 4 months now.

    I do a lot of country highway driving and have recently been having issues with my Prado;

    -Aircon cuts out over 110km/h (has been professionally re-gassed recently, air filter cleaned out and radiator cleaned/checked)
    -Cruise Control is having issues, the speedo needle bounces and almost looks loose when CC is activated, vehicle accelerates and de accelerates as if the vehicle can't find the speed, then CC cuts out randomly.
    -Over 120km/h the temp gauge hits the red.

    Has anyone else had these issues? Or know what's causing them? And how I can get them fixed?

    your ac issues and overheating are related.
    I can guarantee that they are from airflow restriction in your radiator/condenser.
    Check firstly for external blockage infront, behind and most importantly in between the radiator and condenser.
    secondly check the correct function of the fan clutch - if they pack it in they wont be doing their job correctly.
    If thats ok, and the dramas are still there, I would be looking at internal radiator blockage.
    just whack a new one in with new coolant and you should be good.
    worst case there may be some internal condenser blockage - but that would be extremely surprising if you have already fixed the rest of the stuff above.

    as to cruise, not sure if this is related.

      Thanks! I think you're right about the air flow issue, but I will also need to have the full a/c system checked for blockages too I think. I've resorted to taking the spotties off the bullbar to assist with air flow, fingers crossed that works to some degree.
      I believe the CC issue might have something to do with the speed sensor connections?? On the/near the wheels or whoever they connect to the cars computer.

        Yeah it will probably help to some degree to take the spotties off, but if your cooling system is functioning as it should, you shouldnt need to.

        A lot of the newer radiators & condensers have a very tight fin ratio, meaning that debris, dirt & bugs easily get caught in them.
        Often the only solution is to completely remove them from the vehicle & use compressed air to blow it all out - keeping in mind to ensure that when you blow compressed air to keep the airflow square to the radiator/condenser as you can blow the fins over if you do it on an angle.
