    So good oils, have good cleaners, so they get dirty quicker. If the pickup is shiny that's a good sign.
    Let it drain for longer dufus!

    It's a prick of a job to do it right, not the sort of DIY you want.
    I'd rather teach you other things to do.
    To clean manifold, very carefully usually lots of rags, carby cleaner, spray rag only. Can't let it be forced or dropped into plenum.
    All depends in its condition.

      G'day ####,
      My EGR is blanked off between the Inlet manifold and throttle body i think?, or erg cooler, i can't remember! on my 120 series 1kd.It has 2 10mm bolts and i had to drill a 7-8mm hole in it to stop throwing codes. Is this the best place for the blank or is it better between the head and egr?. Also have you done any EGR blanking&cleaning on a 200 series V8 diesel?, Old man has one but can't find much info on the cleaning of EGR on them.

        Ok, first drive to work after Mr restriction plate showed 9.8L/100km on the scangauge, previous average was 10.6L/100km. Pretty damn happy with that and the car is so much smoother and has more power. Happy dance!

          Between the head & egr cooler is the goods.
          Up that end can cause unwanted issues & it won't be near as effective.

          Im only on 1kd, way too many of these engines, with some big problems someone has to find good solutions for & repair.

          The 200 is much the same issues, sorry I'm not more help.

            But not more power, it will be more responsive first quarter throttle.

              Yup, i can go up a gear earlier in the rev range now but it also sings all the way towards redline.

                No, thats great info thanks mate, i will change it between the head and egr with a 7mm hole. Am going to do my brothers 1kd hilux at the same time

                  Still getting fuel economy in the low 10's rather than 10.5 - 11.0 before fitting the restrictor plate.

                      I've fitted a home made egr restrictior plate to my EU spec Landcruiser 120 D4D. I've seen people here complain it's a difficult job, now I'm paranoid as it took under an hour including making the plate up from a stainless offcut.

                      I fitted a plate with 45mm between the bolt holes and a 7mm bleed hole in the centre, cutting the corners off so I wouldn't have to remove the egr cooler, just loosen it and slide it in between the egr cooler and the head.

                      The injectors were replaced and intake cleaned when I bought it 6,000km ago. So I'm trying to save myself future hassle.

                        I’ve just done the blanking plate on my Hilux and initially I drilled a 5.5mm hole.
                        After putting it all back together and firing her up I saw the engine light on.
                        When I headed out the gate and put my boot down it said “ you want me to what?”
                        The dreaded limp mode. BUGGER!!
                        Back home, opened her all up again and honed it out to 6mm, no problem.
                        The backside dyno felt a difference straight away.
                        Its a real quick job once you’ve nutted out what needs undoing and what doesn’t.
