You've done the first mod. - Tires. The rest depends on your use but a stock Prado will go lots of places. Are you a tourer or a rock crawler etc? All have different requirements. I'd suggest driver training if you're new, to learn the right way of doing things, rather than learning bad habits from others, and to unlearn habits youve picked up. (No offence meant to your mates)

I'm on a budget so things get replaced/upgraded as required. I'm still running stock UVP for example because I tour more than rock crawl. We used to tent camp so dual battery was first, then cargo barrier then roof basket.

I actually think a dual battery should be very high on the list if you will use a fridge and/or travel without another vehicle.

Followed by appropriate recovery equipment for the travel you will be doing. For me that means a snatch strap and shackles and appropriate rated attachment points.

If you are going onto sand or gravel and dirt roads you will probably need a compressor.

I would add a UHF CB radio and given a choice it would be 5 Watt built in with an antenna.

Until you know what you need the rest is just bling.

If you are inexperienced I would recommend joining a club and get some training and experience and then spend your hard earned appropriately.

I have a 150SX and tow a hard floor offroad camper and I have been through the Flinders ranges, Arkaroola, Oodnadatta track, Dalhousie, Mt Dare, Finke, All through the West MacD ranges on standard tyres and just some helper air bags in the rear springs to stop them standing.

I'll put my flameproof suit on and pull my head in now.

Yeah what this bloke said! Agree completely. I've also done a lot of those areas on stock tyres. Air down and slow down and you'll be fine. That said, I did have a 2nd spare and did upgrade to AT's once the originals ran out.
