    • Any car can break down but I'll never buy another Mitsubishi because the company doesn't care less if you break down thousands of kms from home.
Neither does Toyota unless you have paid for an expensive road-side assist with them and even then the fine print will show that they'll only go about 100km anyway.

        • I am going to move up from the 2005 petrol 120. 195,000 trouble free kms, but time to upgrade. Drove an Evererest and was not super impressed, felt small inside and finish was cheap compared to Prado.

Drove the new 2.8 Prado and it's a nice wagon. In NZ the VX is the mid range, and it's well specced. Not sure the 2.8 is going to be enough after 10 years of 4.0 V6 grunt? Anyone moved from petrol to be 2.8? Thoughts? Advice?

I have the same problem. Drove the V6 and 2.8 and just cant get away from the v6 grunt and power. The diesel feels sluggish. Sure the consumption is higher with the petrol but its a very reliable donk. I sticking with the petrol me thinks.

            • Hello all
After alot of wishfull thinking and drooling at pictures/photo's of everyone Else's prado's here, i'm finally at the stage of getting one.
Yesterday went and test drove the new 2.8gxl and the fortuner crusade. Prado was first off the rank, loved it, was very surprised at the turning circle and how quiet it was. Fortuner, it was marginally louder than the prado, but to drive it was very nice, just like driving a car. But space wise it was lacking, i know it is like 20cm approx shorter than the prado but it had no leg room in the back 2 seats and if you were to slide the middle seat forward to give some room in the back than the middle would have hardly any leg room.
Anyway back to the prado, I live in Tamworth, country NSW and was wondering if anyone else has bought one yet here and at what price and if any extra's. Or can anyone reccommend a good dealership to go through in the region. Any help muchly appreciated.

                Can I ask:
                1. Are your towing big loads? If so, by a 200 series or an old 100 series.
                2. How quick do you need to get to 60kmh, 70kmh, 80kmh & 100kmh? The 3L D4D gets me there plenty quick enough.
I supposed you'll get a petrol one cheap as chips because no one wants them.
When you go so sell it or trade it in though, you may as well give it away.

                  1. 2T towing occasionally. I have towed with the V6 and liken the acceleration going up the hill pulling the van to planting my foot with 2.8l not towing getting onto the highway.

                  2. Its really the upper end of the speeds 80+km/h that are important to me as I see myself being stuck behind big truck etc while towing because I just dont have the acceleration to get past them. I feel I would still have that acceleration with the V6.

                  3. I have not heard of any major issues with the V6 breaking down "touch wood". Whereas the common rail diesels have and I believe its down to the quality of our diesel. European diesel is far better than ours I think which leads to less injector issues etc.

                  4. Petrols at this stage are still holding there value as there is a small percentage of V6 lovers out there. I can confirm this because my current V6 is going to be traded sold for less than $5k diff of the diesel.

Diesels have there followers but so too petrols. If Toyota did a V6 diesel I may change my mind.

                  Thanks

                  • Before anyone pulls the trigger on a 2.8, have a read of my other thread regarding my dead 2.8. Hopefully it's something minor but important to keep in mind.

                          1. Towing a 2,000 kg boat 10 km every couple of weeks, 250km once a year. Tow other light stuff from time to time.
                          2. Need to get to those speeds or want to? V6 gets me there as quick as I want, suspect I will need to be patient with 2.8
Resale on my 10 year old V6 will be 2-3k less than a diesel, no big deal after 10 years.

Interestingly lease quote for Ford Everest was dearer than Prado! Lease companies are unsure of resale for Everest whereas Prado is a known good value at the end of the lease.

LOL, my assistant has a 10 year old V6 120, can't give it away at $9k - one of my other employees buys rights and repairs them, bought his last 120 1kd for $18K with 70k on the clock, fixed the kangaroo strike and sold it 4 weeks later for $30k. Same model, same age.

V6 is toxic come resale no matter how new or old. Even if it is more fun to drive. If want performance and 2+ Tonne towing, buy a V8 Commodore or Turbo Falcon. The shit resale is a no cost option on them too.
