  • Dual Battery Volt Meter

Just thought I'd share my new volt meter install. Yes, I've covered it in my build thread, but its an electrical item so I thought I'd put it in the electrical section too.

I purchased a dual voltmeter from solidkit - linked HERE.
It was super easy to install, except for getting the cables through the grommet on the fire wall.
Getting the switch blank out ended with a couple of scrapes on my hand...
The 2 positive cables are connected to each side of my VSR, the negatives have been joined and connected to earth.

I can grab some under bonnet wiring photos if required.

    Spilsy,

Is it just 2 positives and 2 negatives on the back of the display/swicth? Or does it have the same wiring as some of the other after market switches wit the dash illumination as well?

Looks so awesome I decided to get one, only wish you had posted this before I bought another style of battery monitor that I now have to resell.

Just the 2 positives (fused) and 2 negatives.

Where is your VSR located and is the wiring that comes with the voltmeter long enough to reach it without extra wire ?

My VSR is under the bonnet near the starter battery. I needed to by a roll of Narva automotive twin core. I think I got 4mm. I think the roll was 3 or 4 metres.
I used the twin cores to get to the VSR, and used the excess black side to the earth.

I also bought another dual battery monitor but it was surface mount with a battery capacity indicator. This unit is a lot neater and cheaper so I also ordered one. At least I havn't opened the other unit as yet so I might be able to sell it to a person who deos not own a 150. Looking for it to arrive.

Thank you for posting this thread Spilsy.

Thanks, I have ordered one as well, so more wires to run and pull the dash apart again, getting good at it now, but running out of switch blanks.

What size wires and what size fuses do they recommend?

There are 2 fuses included in the positive cables. (inline glass ones)
Speaking with Peter from Solidkit, he said that you could get away with speaker cable. I just used a roll of Narva Automotive twin core from Mitre 10.

The draw on these is only 14 ma per panel. That's .014 amps - so the cable capacity only needs to be minimal. I generally use 4mm twin core because that's what I have in stock. But at 22 amps rating its way overkill.

I ordered one of these last week. Great idea, but I think it would be even better if it was also a switch. Not a fan of having phantom load when I'm not using the car. I also picked up one of these to turn it on and off. Sure a $3 switch from Jaycar will do the same thing, but this thing looks nicer in amongst an array of switches that all match the dash

EDIT: I'm going to run it using a single 4-core data/security/speaker cable with PE (polyethelene) sheath. Got a fair bit of it floating around.

Just wire both earth wires through an accessory switched relay, that's what I'm going to do when I fit mine up.

I'd like to be able to use it on-demand, hence putting a switch in and not using an existing relay.
