Totally agree, the places you visit and the tracks you drive are just a bonus, its the people that make the GTG. Its almost starting to become a bit of a reunion for a few of us that have been to a few of these.

    Cheers Andrew

A few more pictures from the GTG.

      Boys in mud having fun!

VK's log bridge that during the last recce was checked and AOK, but unfortunately had been made unusable by the time we got there.

This was a pretty significant spanner in the works as far as the days plans go, this was just meant to be a minor obstacle negotiated with a bit of guidance and then continue along the track. Anyway in the spirit of the GTG everyone was willing to jump in and solve the problem. Given the amount of manpower we had, different people worked on the 2 possible answers at the same time, a few guys tried repairing the bridge while another group attacked the creek bed to make it realistic to have a crack.

Ultimately everyone decided to tackle the creek crossing rather than the bridge that was still a bit "suspect".

First in was our esteemed trip leader VKPrado, he nearly got through but ultimately I think was happy to let his winch loose its virginity.

Next was Gav and he was the only one without a lift, so a bit of a concern, although unwarranted as he got through no problems at all.

Derek had plenty of lift and big tyres, fortunately he also had a winch

After Derek everyone got through under their own steam, so thanks to Derek for smoothing things out.

      Fred

      Cheers Andrew

                So some more pictures,

First one obviously at the wind farm, which was a great experience, I have visited a wind farm previously but never had the chance to go inside one of the towers before, which I thought was pretty cool

Later that day we went on a bit of a drive through the forest and a bit of low range action and a creek crossing, along the way we stopped at this weir, which on the previous reccie VK reckoned he could drive right to the base. You would need a pretty long snorkel to drive there when we visited.

And everyone waiting patiently while VK went to check if the creek was passable, which it was.

I was tail end Charlie so no pictures of the creek crossings from me, but I do recall KPrado standing there with a camera, so maybe we might see a few shots from Kristy........ hint hint

The following day on the transit leg to Gum Leaves campground we stopped for lunch and wine tasting at a vineyard, Brown Brothers if I am not mistaken. Being a non-drinker the wine tasting was not for me, and likewise, if I want to visit a vineyard I can walk out my front door and be standing in one 15 seconds later. However there was something for everyone at this lunch stop and for me it was the views. OMG, we have had lunch with some great vies over the years but this one was right up there with the best of them.

The group after entering the vineyard

The group having lunch and wine tasting

Top marks to Kristy for organizing this lunch stop.

                Cheers Andrew

This was our first GTG and it was definitely the people we met and became friends with that really made the event.
As everyone else has already said many times a big thanks to the committee for all your efforts.
We are now looking forward to the next one.

Thought it was about time I posted up some of our pictures on how we saw the GTG.

Setting up with all the "sponsors" and "welcome" bags for everyone.

                            VKPrado- Day 1, part 3

To get the night started we did an award for the furthest traveled and Derek11 was actually 4319km from home (they had actually been in Tasmania since February).

A big thanks to Launceston Toyota for supplying and then turning up to cook the welcome BBQ. Nicole and her offsider did a great job of cooking and then helping Corrigator get his Prado booked in to try and sort out the injector issue he had encountered that day.

                                VKPrado- Day 2, Part 1

Day 2 was the first day out on the tracks. The plan was to leave Myrtle Park and make our way to Bellingham via gravel tracks using as little bitumen (some contention over the actual way to say that word) and then onto the beach for some sand driving. From Bellingham it was onto Bridport and back to the sealed surface back to Myrtle Park via Scottsdale and the Sidling.

                                Our group for the day.

Even after numerous reccies cleaning this section there was still a tree that needed to be removed just 12km from camp.

Making our way down through the forest and past a previous section of track clearing.

What was once tall trees had now been harvested so things were quite open.
