I'm sure I read on here of people doing that, worth a try for a better fit.

Let me know how you go, I'm thinking of moving to the same size tyre.

I fitted a Cooper zeon Ltz 285/60/18 under the spare wheel cover yesterday. Diameter is 801mm I think. Quite a few changes had to be made. The plastic wheel cover between tyre and car was removed. Around 7-8mm of washers between the black steel wheel bracket and the car were installed. Going to change to some polyurethane ones soon. Then the wheel cover is only held on by the M8 bolt in the center of the wheel. The cover sits snugly around the tyre so the bolt is just holding it in place against the tyre. Not ideal but the missus demanded the cover stays. Will take it off for off-roading in case it rattles its way off. Stainless clip at bottom of bracket has nothing to clip to so requires removal or support to stop it rattling its way down and vibrating/scratching the rear bumper.

Has anyone put 265 x 70 R17 Mickey Thompson STZ on with the factory spare cover?

The new BFG KO2 in 265/70R/17 are listed at 804mm diameter so they should fit??
I have the same doubt... my LC is an old model Prado 2005 and I am not sure if the BFG KO2 265/70/17 will fit under the cover...

To those with Cooper AT3s in 265/70r17s: When you say the cover fits - how well are we talking?
I got it on the top plastic clip and latched, but I'm not sure how many clips are located properly
There appears to be a slight gap at the sides and bottom - 5-8 mm maybe

Already pulled the foam rubber bits out - any more tips?

I have just purchased latest Prado 150 GXL. Fitted 265/70/r17 BF Goodridge KO tyres and as spare. Dealer tried fitting the cover .. No joy.. Removed rubbers inside the cover, dropped spare tyre pressure to 16psi, tried wriggling on. Gets close but to far away to bolt on. Almost resigned to the fact it will not fit. Any more advice appreciated with this particular brand of tyre..

Just updating I managed to fit the cover. Dropped tyre pressure to 10psi (I carry a pump) and scrape out every bit of the rubbers inside the cover. Tight fit but it went on.

Just fitted KO2's at 265/70 17. I got the cover to fit at 20psi with a bit of wriggling. The clip was very tight to do up. If you look closely you'd see a small gap at the bottom where the plastic clips haven't met. The tops fine. I did pull the foam out with no noticeable difference. The real problem is the side lugs hitting the angled section of the cover before the foam engages with the tyre sidewall. I could tell this as the heavy dust inside the cover was showing all the tread marks when I pulled it off.
They're an aggressive looking tyre but what's amazing is how quiet they are. I thought I might have blown it when I saw them on but not a sound.

I aired down my spare (BFG KO2 265/70/17) to 12psi and got the cover on without too much trouble and without modifying anything.. pretty happy with that!

Agree with you too the KO2's are surprisingly quite on the road!

Why wouldn't they fit? They are the size the vehicle comes with. 265 70 17 is the size you will have an issue with, need to air these down to fit them under the cover

Given that some people say the 265/70R17 fits and other say it doesn't, I want to make sure that the 265/65R17 fits okay and isn't a pain the the butt to fit.

Manufacturers and models are all different, so, I didn't want to just assume that it would fit like the GrandTreks.

I changed my 265/65 grand treks to 265/65 d694. The cover fitted but was tight. Removed it when I went to 265/70.
