  • RJ45 Panel Mount (flush)

    Hi Guys

I am chasing any information on suitable RJ45 Mounts others have used in their builds as a point to connect a remoter speaker mic too.

Been trawling the forum and the net and cant find anything on suitable RJ45 mounts, although some have posted pictures, no one has provided information on actual mounts/connectors etc they have used. I am chasing specific if you have them for a flush panel mount RJ45 connector.

I have installed my Uniden 8060s remote head unit, and have a extension cord which came with package coming through to a blank switch location in the centre console (near the coin slot by the Auto gear shifter). What I am looking for is a suitable connector that will fit/mount into a switch blank, so I can connect my remote speaker mic when I want to use the UHF, then put it away.

I have found a few online, but all seem too big (looking at dimensions) to fit into a blank, and I would prefer not to have to drill any more holes.

I have considered these http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/RJ45-Male...0AAOSwpdpVd-LB but the connector will sit proud, and I would prefer it to be flush if possible.

These look ok, but again the size is too big to fit into a switch blank : http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Neutrik-N...AAAOSweW5U7t8A

    Thanks in advance
    TK

I've got some of these at work (or something very similar) - you could cut off the lugs & black plastic then "pot" it with Epoxy into a switch blank. I'm not 100% sure if the RJ45 bit would fit because I have a 150 series - the silver bit on the one I have is 13mm wide if that helps.

It won't fit a switch blank but you can use a Clipsal F30Z mounting collar if you wanted to die grind a 25mm x 25mm hole in the dash/console somewhere. They do come in black or white.
      http://www.clipsal.com/Trade/Product...?catno=F30Z1.5

Then you can snap into the mounting collar a Clipsal RJ45 jack which would also come in black or white.

these Krone jacks are better then the Clipsal offering

Caution though as everything comes in a bag of 10.

        Thanks Guys,

I just realised (well just remembered) that there is a spare switch blank which is larger next to the 2nd start button. I could probably use this to mount a larger connection in such as the one I posted. Seems like a suitable spot to run the remote Mic cord from.

Will look more into the Clipsal option but not that keen on making any 'additional' holes on the console dash if possible.

        Cheers

For anyone attempting this... beware of what is behind! I know from experience - I drilled a hole for my Tow Pro remote in a removable section (the one to the left of the steering wheel) then found the remote wouldn't actually fit in because of the plastic in the dash. At that point I already had the hole so... I had to cut out more of the dash internals.

I just used standard clipsal RJ 45 2000 series mechanism inserts available from any
            electrical wholesaler,

Carefully file an opening to match the raised front of the socket either in the plastic
panel or switch blank or whatever. Paint the front of the insert black or grey to match the plastic panel the glue it in from behind.

I grabbed this one from Jaycar. Not sure if too big for the application you want.

              http://www.jaycar.com.au/Communicati...6P-4C/p/YT6059

My UHF mic only has 6 wires, so I was able to use the RJ12 above (6 pins) with the plug from the mic. If your mic has 8 wires, then you will need the RJ45 plug, as it has 8 pins.

All sounds very complicated. I bought a really great one from RS Components. It fits into a round hole and has an RJ45 female connector either side. So the cable that attaches to the radio just plugs into it and the microphone plugs into the other side. Beautiful solution no soldering required and it fits into the square blanking plug in the dash to the right of your steering wheel.

                        Hi Guys,

this is Brilliant info, it was exactly what i wanted to do. pnewfield nailed it with the RS components site, what a brilliant resource. Finding the right connector was a challenge, but i got there.
I found it took a lot of hunting to get all the info needed together so i blogged the process to make it easier for anyone wanting to do this in the future.
you can read about it on http://markandshelly-4wd-adventures....connector.html

                        Hope it helps someone

I've recently been looking at mounting a UHF with two mics and looking at options to hide the cables. This is the sort of connector I had in mind:

Good job for a 3d printer (if anyone has one).

I have a 3d printer at work and have made a mic holder for my GME radio that clips into a 120 spare switch hole. I am going to try and modify it to take a blank RJ-45 connector for the mic from Jaycar. They only have white ones so might try and grab some black ones off eBay done the line.

Will try and prototype one this week and pop some photos up.
