  • IGN 2 fuse keeps blowing

Hey everyone, I'm new here. My 2006 V6 auto Prado keeps blowing the IGN2 fuse and we loose the air con, indicators and tail lights, not sure what else. Anyone got any ideas?

First step is to pull the fuses for the tail lights, indicators and aircon...

Does it still blow the fuse? When does it blow the fuse? Immediately when you turn the key? Or does it wait awhile... like when you turn on the headlights or use the indicators? If immediately I dare say its in HVAC system in which case I'd seitch it all off and see if it pops the fuse again.

The ideal way to do is using a multimeter and checking the output side of all the related fuses for resistance to earth.

Tail lights should show 7 ohms or higher.
Indicators switched on to one side will show 3 ohms or higher.
AC, blower and other HVAC fuses I'm unsure of but they should all be at least 1 ohm or higher.

Anything below .5 ohms is a concern. 0 ohms is considered a dead short and will kill any fuse.

Also, for what its worth, check both tail/stop light bulbs... if the filament has broken on one then it could be hanging down against the second filament. I've seen this happen before and watched many guys chase their tails trying to find it.

What size is the IGN2 fuse? Since all other items off of that circuit should be fused then I question why it cotinues to happen as they sjould actually pop before that one. Unless one of the accessory fuses has been replaced with a mich higher rating and even bigger then IGN2.

    Bit more info required mate.

Oh and it'd also pay to check for rust and corrosion inside your trailer plug.

Do you have a bullbar? I had issues with the indicator lights shorting out, popping this fuse.
Also had an issue with the trailer plug, reversing with the camper on, popped it too.

It's a 10amp fuse. Missus drove a 100km round trip with no dramas then it blew again. I think it may be linked to reversing. Has happened twice after reversing but not everytime she reverses. I am going to check the trailer plug for corrosion as well as the bulbs. I don't have a bull bar either. Thanks for the help.

Haven't had a chance to check it out yet but i have worked out that it only blows the fuse when we go over a bump while reversing. Going to check both bulbs tomorrow and also check the trailer plug for corrosion.

If it happens when you go over a bump I would also be checking wiring
in the vicienty of the axle and other moving parts of the suspension
                drive shaft etc.

Yep! Especially if youve had wiring done down the back. Ive seen some fitters cut the factory ties to add extra cable but not tie it up back up properly and it gets crushed around the axle or suspension areas.

                  Had a reverse camera fitted?

                    Gday MROBJ40

Would be interested to know what the outcome of this was. I'm currently having the same issue (blowing the same fuse everytime I put car in reverse). Would be great to know what you're issue ended up being.

                    Cheers, Dal
