    Hi Guys and gals,

I'm in the U.S. and I am adding the gx470/'09 prado 120 air springs to the rear of an FJ cruiser as a few people have done. I am doing it for access reasons: I can manually lower the back to make getting my wheelchair in a bit easier.

The question I can't find is this. Can the air bag be installed with a short leader hose already attached? The FJ does not have all the usual plumbing ( ride height tube) that the prado has. Since I have never seen the top portion where the bag is seated, I don't know if a leader hose sticking out will interfere with the top mounting. I hope I have made myself clear and that someone can help. Cheers from Florida!!

You can see photos of the factory airbags in this thread
      http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...-in-120-Grande

As well as what the top seat should look like

You would also need to modify the bottom spring seat by enlarging the centre hole to take the stub from the bottom of the airbag.

Thanks for the quick reply ! And I think I have seen the pics I need but it's very hard to be sure I saw them all since pics are not showing as part of the thread but rather as links buried in the text.

I already own the OEM style air bags and have fitted a 12mm long air hose with quick push-pull fitting on the end. I'm still not 100% sure that I can leave that hose attached as I fit the bag into the truck.

Hopefully someone who has done the install will chime in as well.

        thanks again!!

The factory hose has an O-ring about 10mm from the end. As you push it into the port at the top of the airbag, there is a fitting inside the port that holds the hose securely in place.

Thank you for clarifying that. I wasn't exactly sure how the factory tube was held into the port. I devised a different method and I have tested it under pressure and it does not leak. Now, as I fit my bag into the upper mount on the truck, will the short line I have sticking out of the port interfere with me mounting the bag?

            Thanks again!!

No one has installed or replaced a factory air bag and can tell me if the bag can be fitted at the top with a short piece of air line already installed into the port? Since I use a wheelchair I am trying to get as many details done as I can before I turn the truck over to a mechanic. Thanks again.

In a normal coil sprung 4WD like the Prado and FJ, often the owners fit coil assist airbags inside the coil if they are towing to help the rear suspension out a bit. These airbags have a central tube at the top of the bag that passes through the top mount/bucket. The only issue I could foresee is that the elbow coming off the top of the factory airbag may come in contact with the body of your FJ if there isn't sufficient clearance between the top bucket and the body. Also, the existing holes in the top bucket may not correspond with the location of the elbow and locating lug on top of the factory airbag.

with only a 20-30mm lift would I need spacers. I was thinking of a slight sensor tweak. not looking at over 30mm from a 10mm sensor spacer. i have orignal airbags.

You can do about 40-45mm without spacers by tweaking sensors.
I've run 42mm for 8 years on originals.
