  • Kakadu suspension upgrade - any successes?

    Hi everyone,

I know it's been discussed - anyone have good successes with lifting the Kakadu? Interested in experiences and advice.

    Cheers!

    Winston,

I have a 2" lift. Front raised coils and rear height arm spacers. We can catch up sometime and you can have a look if you like.

    cheers
    Geoff

What brand springs did you choose to lift the front & did you also need to swap out the shockers for longer travel? If so what type as it would help me decide which way is best to go.

Yes you will need longer shocks. Have a look at the suspension for shock lengths.

I recently had the CalOffroad 3"lift kit fitted, its great...
They give you bigger springs and struts as well as larger shocks and bigger airbags too, even came with a diff drop kit. All the in cab height adjustment still works although higher than before.

          pre install.

Orrsom, I've been told any more than a 2" lift you may need to reposition the front sway bar mounts by using an off set bracket & also possibly swapping out the upper control arms for a modified version to correct the ball joint angles as wheels may not align correctly. Was this needed to be done with yours?

            Thanks.

Orrsom, Does the Sport/Comfort setting still work as well as the height adjustment for the rear? The former only works with the factory TEMS shocks as far as I know.

I replaced the upper control arms with theirs and also came with a diff drop kit.
                [IMG][/IMG]

                the whole kit includes
Bistein Silver Long Travel Monotube 2" and 3" Lift Front Strut
Bilstein Silver Long Travel Monotube Rear Shock - 0" to 3" Lift
CalOffroad Platinum Series Tapered Wire Coil Springs - 2" or 3" Lift
CalOffroad Diff Drop Kit - 1" Drop
CalOffroad Adjustable Upper Control Arm Kit
                kakadu air bag kit 2"

Fido, I never noticed any difference between the sports and comfort setting from standard. not entirely sure what it is meant to do, so I honestly couldn't say if it still works?? Cal advised that all in cab function still work.

Only the height control settings will work. The comfort settings have been disabled.

Ok, thanks Amts. I really never could tell the difference between the two setting anyway. It's a very comfortable ride anyhow. Will get it off-road once the new tyres go in and see what the articulation is like, should be heaps better now.

                      Thanks everyone for your input.

I've been looking for somewhere here in Brisbane that will do the lift but without luck. Might need to get in touch with Cal then and have someone up here fit it.

                      Cheers!

Upgrading the Kakadu's suspension is nothing too complex and is almost the same as for the other model grades.
                        1. You'll need KDSS specific front springs.
                        2. Front and rear shocks are the same as other model grades.
                        3. Rear height is easily tweaked by tweaking the height sensors.
                        4. If the KDSS lean still persists, you can do a bleed of the system to correct the lean.

All the info is on this forum and it's not hard to do.

I'd also be searching and reading the threads some on experiences others had with caloffroad.. They certainly weren't like the above I recall? 😐

I have done kakadu & kdss vehicles no problems, A bit if extra work but nothing to difficult.
It seems the majority of operators are reluctant to do these, maybe I can run a training day for them? LMFAO
Some have had bad experience with cal, BUT there's always 2 sides to every story so don't judge till you have all the facts.
You have a few different options depending what your looking to achieve & use it for.
Sorry I can't help you with anyone else who is confident with lifting these vehicles, keep looking surely you can find someone......

Cal was a great help for me. Email, phone or text response to all questions. He told me to get the installers to call him direct if they had any issues or questions. So purely from my experience, I would not hesitate to recommend them. Just my two cents.
