  • 6-speed manual the same in J120 and J150 3.0 turbo diesel?

    Hi guys,

I've read some conflicting information on this, hoping the pros here can clear it up.

Is the engine / 6-speed manual box combo the same in the 3.0L turbo diesel 150 and 120 series Prados? Finding a few different answers online about revisions and tweaks between the 150 and 120.

I have driven the 150 and like it but cost is on the limit for me. But I haven't seen a manual 120 advertised locally to go and test drive.

Will the 120 be the same as the 150 or are there differences here?

    Cheers.

    The 120 and 150 1KDs are both RA61F 6 speed manual transmissions.
The 150's kerb weight is heavier than the 120.

That's because all those Toorak taxis are autos.

This is my second Prado The first was a V6 manual (1998). I would not be going back to a manual. The auto is very capable on and off road. Crawling over obstacles and up and down hills is a breeze. And, if you're a city slicker and spend some time in the world's longest car parks - freeways -auto is the only way to go.

They are the same engine and gearbox types, the gearbox is identical. The engine however isn't. Front mount inter cooler in 150 vs top mount for 120 being the most obvious. Different tunes on the two engines mean two different torque and power curves (the 150 having more power and torque). The 150 is heavyer than the 120 though. To be honest the 150 is a bit smoother to drive (torque delivery), but the 120 is still very nice. The biggest thing you will notice is the clutch does feel heavyer in the 120. Go for a test drive before you commit to either, some people I know do prefer the 120.
