Just to add to this further, i reckon the best solution discussed in Prado point is a complete block, plus you cut the exhaust gas feed pipe and run a line to the air box. This means the ERG can operate as normal, the turbo can dump as normal, but it is fed with nice clean air. You will also not throw codes. Cant remember who did it, but its well thought through.

Exactly but back to Lortaps post you still have excess boost were does it go??? As the name states out through the turbo and exhaust. The variable vanes fold back release boost and walla! Job done. You might see a spike in pressure but no more than the Fast and Furious dump valve noise. Both methods are a plus.

Hi lortap, reading from a chip tuner website that I got through some one on this forum, when a remap is done they disable the EGR (close it during boost, but open it off boost) so no faults are recorded, and so long as the remap is reliable, and Dabeanian's seems good, I am thinking of going down that route also. All the usual safeguards for the engine are kept. Phil

Hi Poppy Joe, This is the way I would like to go, also. Would like to get the car run in a little bit more and be nearer the end of warranty, so would really like to hear how yours goes.

In a other land far far away I think it was South America a Prado Pointer joined this thread inquiring as to where the EGR valve was. After posting some pics there was none not even a heat exchanger that could possibly fail. Turns out South America are slack with emission controls. I cant find the thread but it would be good if we could contact him again and get some pics of the type of turbo they run there.

i had an interesting talk with a great mate that tunes race cars in QLD ( i know quite a few guys travel BIG Km's to have him tune their race cars !)

he has been doing the race cars for 20+ yrs

6mths ago he got into doing the road cars with the diesel engines

most cars are done with just a program that is supplied
(to do the tuning on the car specifically to suit that individual car a special machine is required at a cost of $100k, which there is only 2 of at the moment)

he is working with the guys that have the machine
he does the run on the dyno with the car then goes through the parameters sends the file off with the changes required and then recives the file back loads it back in and does another run
this continues till he has the engine running the way he likes it, on most is is 5 to 7 runs on the dyno, not just the quick flash load that a lot do

don't get me wrong they are all good tunes that have been done on someone else's car at some time

so i guess i will be taking a drive to QLD soon to get mine sorted out

The variable vanes can't dump excess boost. All the vanes do is direct the exhaust flow at the desired angle onto the exhaust wheel of the turbo. The vanes can increase or decrease the speed of the wheel but there is no passage from the intake pressure side of the turbo to waste the excess boost pressure in the intake back to the exhaust .

G'Day. I'm a rookie here, and not sure if this is the correct place for this comment, but here goes anyway. I have a 2003 Prado KZJ120R TurboDiesel (purchased second hand last year 180k Km ). I require more grunt and better economy (getting a constant 13l/100km open road, not towing) , so put on a 3in exhaust and an Ozbush manual mapper. Fuel consumption dropped by 0.4 l/100 on the open road with Ozbush mapper set at -10. I then had a dyno test to find 63 Kw at wheels Ozbush off, and 65Kw with Ozbush mapper on best setting of +7. So pulled Ozbush off and returned it and got half my money back. I'm still looking for better economy and more grunt. I have been told this motor cannot be remapped at all, but can only be chipped. I really don't want to spend $1200 to $1600, and I can't find a second hand one! What are my options? Any ideas, please?
