I bought 2012 Prado GXL also for $62000, I drove it out the showroom and felt the vibration, I spoke to the rep and he said to report it on the first service , which I did, I complained every service after that and although they tried to fix it, I have to say the diagnosis every time was worse than that of a child, I was amused at the reasons they gave for the vibration.

The vehicle is now 5 years old and the vibration is so bad, the whole car shakes, it's the same vibration only so bad it's unbearable.

What do I do, I don't have the bottomless pocket to engage a solicitor, and it gets worse, I wish all the people with the same problem would get together and ask Toyota to take a look at the problem seriously, I believe it is a gearbox problem.

I'm interested in other opinions regarding this suggestion
      Thanks
      Allan
Allan, have you gone down the fair trading path as yet as there could be some options on that route? If you can get it in front of the relevant Consumer Affairs Tribunal you may have some success.

        Hi
        Thanks for your interest.
No I haven't been there yet, I am hoping Toyota will do the right thing, and that course of action won't be necessary, but I will definitely go this way if I don't have any positive progress, I don't understand why they wouldn't accept responsibility as this has been a problem from the day I drove it out the showroom and has got progressively worse until now where my regular mechanic has said that the vibration is bad enough for Toyota to make an accurate diagnosis, as they were grabbing at straws while the vibration was slight, Toyota has always told me to monitor it, which I have done and now it needs something to be done by them as the vibration is BAD at around 1500 rpm.

Il keep his post up to date for anyone interested.

          Cheers

You say that it is rotation speed related, what exactly is the problem. Is it vehicle speed or engine rev related and at what speed or revs, does it occur in every gear, does it occur under load or at all times?

            Allanandmichelle,
I feel for you, this is a terrible situation you find yourself in, but as far as I can see, (and I may have missed it) since around 2012, no where in your posts do you really give much information, which may be limiting your ability to get help from people who know quite a bit about these vehicles. Your signature is non existent, so all we seem to know is that your car was bought in 2012 and is a 150 Prado...no other real details, although you mention you did put a snorkel on it. We don't even know what state you are in. I have a sense that you may have just left this go on and on for too long, without really exhausting your options more fully, and I don't mean spending lots of money, but anyway, I could be very very wrong, and I'm not being critical, I'm just saying that because this has gone on for so long, it is going to get more difficult o get a resolution. I have had 2 prados, and have driven quite a few, and I test drove quite a few, and honestly, I have never experienced what you seem to describe. and by your description, you and others have yet to really describe the issue, or have any idea where the vibration may be coming from...a good mechanic can usually isolate it to something that occurs when moving or stationary, engine idle, or at certain revs, and if it occurs when the vehicle is on a hoist and stationary or only when moving etc etc etc...anyway, just making some comments that's all I suppose, and just indicate that there are folk on this forum that could potentially help, but without even knowing if the car is an auto or manual or whatever, and without really knowing what you are trying to describe its a needle in the haystack situation...impossible to provide any real advice.
I'm not being rude, but a quick look through the posts give no real clues to go on, and if the issue is as bad as you say, I'd be seeking some expert advice, wherever that might be, (we have no idea what state let alone what city you might be in)...there are "enthusiasts" (some are mechanics, some a diesel fitters, some are back yard warriors, some a racing enthusiasts) who could potentially even just have a listen or sit with you and go for a drive and can let you know their thoughts, some have access to a range of diagnostic equipment which might uncover some issue that has been missed....and some folk are recognized experts in their field (I am none of those other than an enthusiast, but this forum has allowed me to link up with some experts)...either way, if this "vibration" is as bad as you say, then maybe consider providing as much information as you feel comfortable with about your location, your vehicle, your modifications, and maybe even post a video recording of the car whilst driving...anything...because no one likes to see someone with a "sick" prado...and indeed, there may be others with the same issue. The original post in this thread was an article I saw in a local newspaper, and the legal firm involved was easy to identify, and I might have tried to track them down some while ago if I was in your situation to see how they managed to get a satisfactory settlement for their client who had problems with their prado.

Check my new post regarding the Idle Harmonic at the lights when the AC cycles OFF, and i have a similar Harmonic when on the road from 70 to 90 when it slips into 6 gear.

Looking at selling it if a resolution isnt met in the next few weeks.
