  • Can 150series suspension fit 120 series?

    Hi,

I had a 10 years old 120 series and notice on Gumtree someone is selling his near new 150 series suspensions after upgrade?
The price is pretty tempting but i'm not sure if they can fit my vehicle.

    Thanks

I know it's not a fully perfect answer but the OME suspension selector shows different part numbers for the springs

Know of a fairly adventurous bloke that has fitted the 150 series OME units to his 120 series.
The rear spring free length is 10mm longer than the OME springs for the 120 series and the struts are a higher rate due to the 150 series being a heavier vehicle.
Some slight modifications where made to the strut lower bush tube, but yes they will fit.
I picked up his 10000km old OME rear springs to freshen up the ride in our 120 series, same p/n. springs that I had just less klm on them.
      Cheers

        Yes.

You have to grind 1mm off the lower bush on front so it fits into lower control arm.

          Hey van,

One thing to be aware of: the 150 strut cap sits around 20mm lower than the 120 series strut cap, so if you put the 150 struts with the 150 strut cap into the 120 series, you change the closed and open lengths from 432-555mm for 150 to 452-575mm in the 120.

The increase in closed length is ok, as you would still be around 20mm of shaft travel from touching the bumpstop.

However, the open length at 575mm is very close to where the CV binds on the 120 series.

My advice is if you do the swap with 150 suspension into 120, use the 120 series strut cap with the 150 series strut.

Thank everyone for great answers. After referring to other threads about replacing Prado's suspensions, I reckon I have to seriously improve my DIY skills first , so I will probably save time and money for future aftermarket suspension upgrade .
            Cheers
