  • Led hi beam upgrade on 2016 VX - Stedi night pilots

    Hi Guys

I have a bit of a first world problem here.

Im looking at upgrading my the hi beams to led and came across this product.
    http://www.stedi.com.au/h7-hb3-hb4-h...ht-pilots.html
They seem to be a a reputable brand with some of us on this forum using their driving lights and light bars.

Has any VX/Kaka owner upgraded their hi beams to led, if so wondering how the output is like as ive head that leds are not that good. In saying that the led main beams on the VX is incredible. Cannot go back to halogens.

Looks good, but as always of the focal point isn't the same as the OEM bulb your net gain will be zilch or less than standard.

In my opinion if the factory bulbs a aren't bright enough then maybe it's time for an optometrists appointment? If 250m isn't enough time to see what's coming in the dark, watch out!

You could probably take a similar line on most of the mods that people do, not really necessary but more like scratching an itch.

I have some of these Phillips LED H4 s. in my 120. I'm very happy with them. Heaps better than the best halogens I've tried.

I fitted some Stedi night pilots today. Very easy to fit; however, they are incredibly bright. And there seems to be very little difference between high and low beam. New low beam provides much more light than the old high beam and IPF900 XS (old halogen models). I'll check tomorrow whether I have installed them correctly otherwise I don't think I'll be comfortable using them as they will blind oncoming traffic on low beam. Pity - the light is fantastic.

Also - once fitted my spotties have stopped working??

GBPrado, What did you end up doing with your LED Lamps? Is it the spread that is too bright? I thought I would like to go to LED Low Beam as they are on all the time and the LED's use nearly half the power. The extra light would be a bonus.

I have the same problem. I have found out why but not how to fix.
With a normal bulb one of the 3 prongs (in the plug) has power to it when you flick on the high beam. This is the wire the spot light switch is hooked up to.
With LED bulbs this wire or prong has no power to it anymore. On low and High beam only one of the prongs/Wires has power. Not sure why (guess it has something to do with the little box thing that comes with LED bulbs)
Any way thats the problem but as Ive said I dont know the fix
If any one has worked this out please let us know.

Just came accross this thread, did anyone end up finding a fix for the plug issue?

I cant remember where I read but I remember that article says the halogen is actually more suitable for 4wd which is more likely in harsh and changing environment. And the factory halogen is quite high quality bulb i suppose.

Just to chip in that I have found the high output globe replacements (e.g. Philips +100%) to be very good, but they sometimes have less life than standard. Due to the dipped bulbs on the 150 being on all the time I run standard bulbs in the summer and the +100% in the winter (only about 2 mins to change them). I plan to consider some compact LED driving lights at some point, but not urgent given the Philips performance. I think the 2018 model Prado is going full LED on all models.
