  • Question about disconnected isolator cable.

    Hi,

I purchased a used Prado recently and noticed there is a disconnected cable from the dual battery isolator. I think the cable supposes to connect to the starting battery +terminal but it doesn't. The other wire from the isolator leads to the back of the vehicle and I'm not sure where it goes to. I think it was setup that way for the 2nd battery in the trailer because I know the previous owner had a trailer.

When I connect the mentioned cable to the +terminal of the main battery, I see the charge light of the isolator turned on which make me very confused because I don't think there is a 2nd battery on the car at that time.

Could anyone please tell me what's going on?
The voltage when unplugged is 12.27v, when i connect the isolator wire to the battery it drops to 12.24v. The engine was not running at the time i checked.

What was the voltage of the battery when you connected the wire to the +ve terminal?

The light on the VSR simply means it is turned on, that doesn't mean there is a battery
        connected to.

The wire your connecting to the battery is it a thick wire, if it is it is the input to
the VSR, if the VSR is turning on without the engine running then it is most likely
faulty unless it has an override switch which is turned on.

Check to see if a second battery was installed in the engine bay or rear of the vehicle if
not then the VSR probably just wires to the anderson on the rear of the car, the fact the
wire is disconnected at the battery probably may also indicate the VSR is faulty and the
previous owner disconnected it for that reason.

Hi LeighW, I'm not sure how thick it should be but it's pretty thick to me (the red line). I looked everywhere but couldn't see the 2nd battery unless he installed it somewhere under the vehicle. Thanks for the answer .
