  • Brake problems

    Hi Guys.
Does anyone else have problems with brake shudder on their 2010 155 (shorty)?
In the last 2 years (approx 15000 kms) I have had 1 complete set of rotors, 1 complete set of pads and had the rotors machined twice. Now I have been told that they cannot be machined again but will have to be replaced next time. I do tow a caravan (14ft pop top) but have only done about 5000 kms in the last 2 years. Does this wear seem excessive to anyone else? It is the only bad experience about owning the vehicle that I have found.

    Replace rotors with DBA T3.
Bendix 4x4 pads. See if that fixes it.

Already using Bendix 4x4 pads but not sure about the rotors. I will have a talk with my Mechanic.

My 155 SX has done about 80,000k and the only brake problems I have had is the Emergency Brake Activation (EBA) is too sensitive and tends to go off when all I really want to do is turn off the cruise control or flash my brake lights.

Sometimes if I come off the accelerator onto the brakes to quickly it assumes I want to do a crash stop and applies full brakes. If I don't have any weight in the back the Left Hand Rear wheel locks up and I start going sideways with no way to release the brakes and take control back.

Toyota standard answer is FAD (Functions as Designed) or they can't reproduce it.

        No shudder tho'.
