2 stroke oil in a D4d

Sounds a bit like snake oil salesmanship to me.
That 2 stroke oil was the "only" thing to get the Merc trucks through to me contradicts the argument that the 2 stroke oil provides lubrication to our "dry" low sulphur fuel. The diesel fuel in most of Central Asia is higher in sulphur content (hence lubrication) therefore should not need the 2 stroke oil for lubrication. The high sulphur causes issues with most modern diesels designed to run on low sulphur fuels (particularly DPF equipped engines), most engine companies will have different service requirements and oil specification with high sulphur fuel use.
I work for an diesel engine manufacturer and we rarely have issues with fuel quality, it is almost always contaminated fuel, usually in remote regions including the Pacific Islands and Micronesia. I think the issue is more a design compromise in making an old school diesel into a common-rail engine. I am interested to see if the new 2.8 engine has similar issues with its Piezo-electric injectors, I think not.

Well i thought thee article was pretty self explanatory, but there is never a shortage of people trying to put words in your mouth.
Snake oil salesmanship? Try to find 2T on my website - we DONT SELL IT. Not to mention the facebook topic was headlined 'some helpful information for those WITHOUT BDG injectors'. you have my injectors, you wont need it - so why would I sell it?
I've posted up a genuine article that has some merits in some applications, mainly D4D engine owners. anyone who cares to come here to our shop is welcome to see the thousand or so spindles parts we BIN every month and make your own mind up. They all seize... Its not lost on me that we only see 'failed; injectors, so i assume that if you're lucky enough to have good quality fuel your entire life, then the issues won't happen to you, but if you want some insurance, this is a easy way around it.
Its an article we've written based on our observations to help those that are not even our customers - and somehow we're snake oil salesman! WOW

"...While this study does show that no detrimental effects on lubricity or exhaust emissions are caused by the addition of 2-stroke oil to diesel, fuel injector fouling is a possible risk. .."
"...It would therefore be irresponsible to advise or condone the use of 2-stroke oil in diesel and this practice is not recommended..."
“...The results of the study support a view that the practice of dosing diesel with 2-stroke oil is surprisingly ineffective in terms of lubricity and cetane improvements...”
etc...
just saying..

I guess that is the drawback of the interweb, once upon a time you would find a guy who actually knows and has done it (and I still know a couple, but the number is decreasing as they move/pass on), but now anyone who can afford an internet connection and can type "google" is an instant expert with the combined knowledge and (in)experience of everyone else who can do the same.
Folks, BDG do it and see it every working day of their lives; injector repair that is. They get to see the article, not when it is just manufactured or inside it's warranty, but when it is approaching, or at, the end of it's service life. They are not trying to sell you 2T oil, or just get your engine out of warranty so they can wash their hands of it. Hell, they might be decreasing their sales if the additive works for you.
I have seen the odd "snakeoil" product that has actually had some effect. The fuel catalysts that contain tin alloys for example, designed to prevent valve seat recession in older engines running ULP. When pulled down after a number of years this old donk showed no seat recession, and had a "coating" of a dull grey, metallic looking material in all the bores unlike anything previously seen. The catalyst did exactly what was advertised, coated the combustion areas with what I can only assume was a tin compound.
Do, or do not, suit yourself, but don't infer the guys are trying to rip you off by calling it "snake oil salesmenship".

I'm interested to know if anyone can post a link to an example of 2T oil addition actually damaging an engine or pump in any manner?
Maybe it's like going to church: you have no proof of a favourable outcome, but you go just in case; it couldn't hurt to hedge your bets, could it?
