I think that one will work. I was originally looking at this one below from xtrons though, but i dont think it supports the obd2 function when i did some googling, it also seems to be a bit old and only have a tft display.

Both seem to have the exact facsia dimension and edges required for the standard prado/toyota/hilux dash. so it comes down to which is better spec wise?

After a bit more "surfing" it appears Android 5.1.1 & new processor boards give about 4X screen response time - so they say?

Carjoying just released a new model JY-UL135 with latest Android 5.1.1 processor board. Looks same dimensions as older version JY-UQ130 with Android 4.4.4.
Note again their front panel dimensions are wrong! Both actually 182 x 104. But 2DIN box dimension seem to be accurate - Chinese?? I checked the vernier reading on their Youtube

Below is a good demo of the improved screen response & menus on JY-UL135
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqqjKUphsOo

The bad news, stock only available from China website! We must be patient for stock to get to AUS warehouse & ebay au

Facia Dimensions above are for same unit diff version & are as I eyeballed the Vernier Caliper on youtube. My eyes read 182 x 104mm - so not bad for an old codgers eyes this far from China

The diag. missing dimension, 2DIN steel case lateral = 178mm (standard 2DIN).

BTW I've sent a pigeon on a mission

AFAIK may need 9mm gap filler each side = work-around.

Additional info obtained from their Hong Kong ebay.au site approx AUD371.
Carjoying offers Warranty / parts support for 2 years. Technical support 5 years.

Considering potential warranty returns would work out cheaper shipping once stock in Sydney warehouse.

              Hey lads.

so I put mine in last week, the joying 6.2" screen quad core version 800x640px display and it works/looks a treat.

              My summary post install:
Awesome unit. Really useful for mapping, Torque OBD2 interface is clean and responsive and really rate live graphing fuel consumption etc whilst driving. Love it.

The 800x640px screen is clear enough, but most apps are made for portrait orientation AND 2000px+ screen dimensions. Normally it's fine, but some app's prompts are actually outside of the screen area and you just cannot get to the buttons. Waze for example, there's a menu I can't access.

The NAND flash has me stumped. 16gb internal space, but 1gb partition for the boot. So this has limited me to one Nav app, Spotify and black player MP3 apps now it's full. I've got 2x 64gb sd cards installed, a 128gb USB, and 16gb of NAND built in, but cannot use any of that for system stuff. Really, really annoying. You can move apps to SD card but bulk of it stays in the boot directory.

As for the rest of it, steering controls, the provided wiring harness, headlight light dim integration, Bluetooth phone connection etc - it's incredible. Everyone who's been in my car oozes with jealousy and asks where to get one. Overall I'm super impressed. It doesn't behave like a tablet per se, but for an in car media centre it's amazing.

If you're an audiophile, you'll notice the sound quality is better than stock in these units. But the noise floor is pretty high and I'm having to deal with a constant hiss at low dB. Joying are investigating, and potentially sending me an earthing filter for the positive cable that will remove this noise floor.

I'll post photos and possibly a video next week.

                Hi Andy,
I have been following this post for some time & I'm very interested to know what exact model you purchased. I have communicated with Carjoy and they have recommended SKU: JY-TQ123 ( the front panel measures 200mm x 100mm )

Also what difficulties (if any) did you experience with the installation

                Look forward to your response

                Bob

                  Hi bob.

Yep so that model you have stated there is the same face as what I have. It's a kitkat 4.4.4, quad core Cortex A9 model, runs neat. DVD/CD drive was a luxury i wanted to so opted for that.

Difficulties i had was choosing the wiring harness with little info. I have the 2008 GXL, so took the standard (non-canbus) wiring harness, and it clipped in a dream!

Dead set, the only complication I had during install was removed the head unit and AC assembly. On the left hand side of the console is a semi-translucent cable routing shield that is clipped into brackets. These are clearly designed for a single install, and getting into the gap to squeeze the locking pins out of the way to slide back out was the biggest difficulty. Once that's off though, it all goes together well enough.

There was one major setback though actually! The factory head unit and that joying head unit differ by about 3mm face depth. The larger face on the joying unit actually looks better than the toyota, but caused the whole unit to sit further forward (towards the driver) than the factory unit. Because of this, I had to manually drill mounting holes in the brackets to hold the console into the dash. I'm not that handy, but this was a walk in the park, as i only needed to expand the existing holes and it slotted in beautifully.

Wiring was literally a no brainer. Clip it all into the obvious sockets, and turn the unit on. Speakers are all responsive and on the right balances, steering wheel controls work, screen dims when the lights are turned on, and the reverse camera works perfectly. I wired my own switch to toggle reverse camera at will, but the interface is very easy to wire.

My only complaint is the 1gb system storage as discussed, even though it says 16gb, that's the internal storage, not the system flash. So that's a big limitation. And there's an obvious noise floor in the pre-amp. I'm the only one who can hear it, but as I work as a video producer and do most of my own audio engineering, i'm very attune to unwanted noise. Acoustic quality is a definite step up off the factory though!

Thanks for your quick response Andy, great information. Now I'm really interested in this unit for my 2007 GX 120 prado

Just a couple of more questions,
what info is required when ordering this unit with the torque OBD2 interface? & What was the cost?
How and where did this interface plug into the prado system

The internal storage (16GB), can this be used to store music files? if so do you use the USB connection to transfer files
What did you do to obtain the DVD/ CD option & how much was this

                      Howdy Everyone,

I'm in a similar situation to texasbh, just got a 2009 GXL and really wanting to change the stereo out - this thread is great and a little confusing haha.

Andy have you got this model here - HERE ?
I was looking at the Carjoy website and simply by looking at Android head units and then selecting Toyota I get This model for the 02 - 09 120 series listed HERE is this the one to go for?

In anyone's option what is the better option above - will they fit plug and play OR is there a better option out there that simply slots straight into the existing spot no modifications required?

                      My min requirements are below

                      • I have steering wheel controls - would like to continue to use them
                      • Bluetooth for phone calls
                      • Bluetooth for Music streaming - Spotify etc
                      • GPS
                      • DVD\CD
                      • Ability to run through amp down the track - 3 pre outs
                      • Remove old Stereo and install new with ability to simply plug and play - wiring adapters are fine obviously.

I have been using the search field a fair and was hoping to find a walk through on how to remove the stereo - if anyone could point me in the right direction (if there is a guide) it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for anyone replying

                      Cheers.

I got one of ebay, in answer to (some) of your questions

                        * If it is a true double din, you can get a facia to fill the sides from SuperCheap Auto or Autobahn Aeropro brand so most places stock it as its applies to most Toyota Models
                        * Most aftermarket head units I've seen these days use ISO connectors, again Aeropro have a plug in loom to suit

Apparently there is also a module that allows you to use the steering wheel controls - I have a 2005 so no steering wheel controls for me

I was looking at the one in the pic on eBay plug and play with igo and oz explorer maps. But then I read that android is better (is it). I'd like to use igo and oz maps is this possible and where would I get them from. What unit is the one for the 120. I'm not very tec savvy when it comes to this stuff so like plug n play no hassles. Cheers for any advice Wayne

I just bought THIS Xtron unit off eBay the PF75HGTA, built for Toyota so it has the correct ISO fittings. There is another model made for the Prado but i preferred this generic Toyota model. Install was simple, it is a mm taller and wider then the prado model so it was a tight fit but I got it in. The GPS i just left sitting on the back of the unit and it works fine.
Bluetooth Music did not work on any phone in the house, calls work fine. I'm happy with it!
