OK, I have never had a car that could use all of the fuel tank capacity, my previous statesman couldn't get the last 4-5 litres which is why I asked.

I always use BP as well so I haven't had a problem with filling the tank right up

Murry, I have noticed exactly the same thing happening consistently on my 150 series 2014 diesel Prado. Like you, I tested it a few times, and it's consistent. I'm getting slightly better fuel consumption than you, it seems (10.4), but the issue is the same, and the 20L left in the tank is the same.
I quizzed the local Toyota dealer (Mareeba Toyota) about it at the 40k service a couple of weeks ago (June 2016). They weren't adamant but felt that Toyota were allowing a safe margin in the tank because running dry in a common rail diesel is not a place you ever want to go. I recall seeing a similar post on a Nissan 4x4 site suggesting that Nissan do the same thing.
      Cheers

Thanks for letting us know, makes sense but very conservative!

Last tank in my 2016 ran it down past zero Km to go and could only get 132 litres in, even with numerous clicks to try and get that last bit in... Certainly has a large margin of error.

I have not seen it but the manual for my 2012 model page 541 implies that the light will also flash if the fuel is low.

Quote "1KD-FTV models with sub fuel tank only: Indicates that remaining fuel is about 22.0L (5.8 gal etc) or less if the light flashes."

Unfortunately there is no information for what "or less" means.

            Cheers

I bet you'd get 10 L in an hour later.

I'll have to try that next tank Symo.
Must be a design issue, will bring it up with the dealer next service, bound to get the "never heard of that before" from them though.
