  • 4WD Supacentre Illuminator 9" Round LED Driving Lights - any good?

Has anyone tried the 4WD Supacentre Illuminator 9" Round LED Driving Lights? Their lumen output looks ok but that doesn't tell me much about where the light goes. I asked them for the beam pattern and they said they don't have that yet but are working on it. They also said they are selling 3000/month so hopefully someone has some and can report back!

At that price they have to be good value. The stats certainly look good.

Ordered mine early April, with delivery promised Early May...

Figured they were worth a shot for the price!

They are okay... I have the model before these that looked like the ARB intensity and were quite a it more powerful, but they were forced to stop selling them due to legal action from ARB.

I had to do a warranty claim as the base/brackets rusted badly (supposed to be stainless, obviously very low grade). Customer service was terrible! I had to chase them several times for a response and they have just sent me a new set of the same brackets. I assume they too will rust the same as the last....

Great at marketing products with daily emails but don't want to know you after the sale.....

Is it possible to coat the brackets so they don't rust?

Yeh don't see why not, I was contemplating that...

Hmmm, ok - not sounding too great so far! I could paint the brackets before I put them on (black to match the bull bar?) so I guess that's not a killer problem though it does make me worry about the overall quality.

What's the beam shape like? How much ends up on the road ahead/beside and how much in the trees above (spotting possums!)?

I'm not a guru when it comes to lights, but they light up the beach and fireroads really well. Mine came with spreader and standard covers, I just use the standard ones and they are probably 5-10 times brighter then my old lightforce 140's.

Agree peter_mcc, it will be interesting to see how long they last...

I seen them on other cars before I bought them and noticed the weathered paint. But I reckon adding a couple of coats of paint is a cheap compared to what you would have to pay for comparable units.
And if you mount them like I had to, they make the dogs balls seem inconspicuous.

I just resprayed the brackets with epoxy paint. They did rust quite a bit from a trip to Fraser Island. The bolts are also low grade, but the lights are a fraction of the price. I was contemplating replacing the bolts with stainless steel ones but in the end just used the originals again.

In hindsight, I should have painted the brackets before I installed them. I don't regret making this purchase.

Really happy with mine, they are a lot of light for the money with a good combination of spread and throw. I also bought their wiring harness which made installation simple, i just bought a better switch (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/331565715980) that fits in the Toyota blank.

                          Would definitely buy them again.

My mate has four ARB Intensity LEDs across the top of his Defender and they have faded and aged badly. Given what he paid for them, he isnt happy and nor would I be.

I bought a pair of ARB High Intensity LED's, after 12 months ½ the LED's were out and the surroundings faded, ARB replaced them FOC. Said it was a pigment used in early versions that caused the fading issue.
