  • 5vzfe High Idle Problem?

So my 99 RV6 Prado seems to be idling too high. When I start it up and it warms up it sits at 1500rpm then when it's all warmed up the revs won't go down at all. In fact it rises a little.

When I start the engine without the MAF connected the revs sits just above 1100rpm and then as soon as I connect the MAF back up the revs jump back up to 1500-1600rpm. Sometimes it can be higher.

It is also being very petrol hungry lately.

It also runs on gas and this stopped working all of a sudden a few weeks ago, could this play a part? Or is it likely tha MAF just needs replacing? Thanks for any help and suggestions

Yes I gave it a clean but didn't change anything.
I used an electrical component cleaner though not specific for MAF, does this matter?

The chemical composition of th product would be different, so it would behave differently and dry and maybe leave a film on the sensor

I did use a product I saw on a seperate website but there was just no change. Wanted to ensure I got a genuine part so just went to wreckers and picked one up.

Instant difference. From sitting at 1500rpm idle to like 500rpm. Too happy

Mine is the same idling at 1500 when at operating temp. Maf sensor has been cleaned. I was told to check throttle body/ butterfly and clean, clean air flow sensor. And check for intake vac leaks. I would love to get it sorted.

Hi Guys,if the maf sensor plug is disconnected the rpm will change, thats normal,If the gas is wired to the maf and tps sensors it could be connected to your issue,However i have had the same thing happen to me and it turned out to be the vac line that plugs into the front of the inlet manifold. So check all your vac hoses first,The electrical spray cleaner should be ok,generally they are all pure flourocarbon spray, cant think of any other causes except a damaged maf sensor.Hope you find your problem, cheers Dave.

                      5vz fe high idle fixed

Hi to all. I may have a solution for high idle even in cold start. Most diagnosis is the IAC, MAF or even after cleaning or changing these mechanical parts, still did not change the high idle problem. Actually the problem is not mechanical but electrical/electronics. In the 5vz engine the ecu controls the engine rpm. So what i did is i spiced the two wires leading to the thermistor (engine temperature sensor) and attached a 100 ohms resistor and the engine rpm settles to 800rpm. I also removed my engine thermostat. Engine runs fine and engine runs smoother.

Is that deep orange colour from corrosion in your cooling system? If it is you've had tap water going through your cooling system for quite some time. I'd flush it thoroughly with a double recommended strength radiator flush and replace it with correctly mixed coolant and demineralized water before you're up for a new radiator and water pump. Your water pump spindle would be rusted too. It doesn't take much to corrode them.

Then after 1 month, flush it thoroughly again and re-fill again. The coolant will be of much better quality then and your cooling system will have less gunk and floaties moving around in it.
