  • Passenger footwell flooding, ideas?

Hey all, the passenger footwell on my 2007 VX keeps filling with water whenever I drive in the rain. Doesn't seem to happen if the car's parked up though. My first thought was windscreen as that had recently been changed so had it re-done and the guy showed me the seal and it did look perfect. Air con drain is free. I was thinking it could be related to the cracked guards maybe, any ideas?

Possibly but their probably is a drain system in the air inlet ducting at the bottom
of the windscreen which might be blocked by leaves etc, try running a hose to through
the grill and see if it drains freely.

I've got the whole dash apart now and cannot replicate it with a hose. I've taken the plastic cover off that sits at the bottom of the windscreen and is it normal to be able to see the air-con filter straight underneath this plastic? I would have thought there was a cover or something.

Will try to post a pic.

Is the seat belt wet when you pull it right out? If so have a look at the bolts that hold the roof racks on as that's where mine was leaking. A bit of neutral cure silicon cured it.

Nah I thought it could have been roof rack but it was defiantly coming from the firewall. Was almost impossible to make it happen with the hose. Best I can get is a slight trickle but when driving the movement must allow it to flex and oven up enough that it pours in.

Think I've found a seam that looked a bit open next to a weld which is unpainted and looked like it was done after the build so hopefully a bit if silicone sorts it out.

Great if you found the leak otherwise maybe check the windshield.

I had water coming into my Prado foot well from the windshield. They had replaced it a month earlier and there must have a been a pin hole in the silicon seal. Made a mess that required numerous carpet floor dry outs.

Hmm, hopefully not, it's already been taken out once so they said they'll need to get it to their workshop if it keeps leaking. Fingers crossed.

I assume you have checked the rubber hole plugs in the floor

In my 80 series cruiser my passenger side floor was constantly flooded from a leaking windscreen.
Replaced and resealed numerous times with genuine and non genuine rubber seals.

Eventually passing through Emerald went to local windscreen shop (Protector I think) and told my story.
The guy I spoke to said he had an 80 series and knew what to do.
I said this is what everyone had said but go for it.

After he had started he called me into workshop and showed me that there was no sealant on the underneath part of rubber at top of screen.
I said but that water does not run uphill and his reply was that" you would be surprised where it runs"
Anyway to cut a long story short I paid the $99 and went through 8inches in one night and 28 inches over 3 days and not a sign of a leak.
So for what its worth check to see if yours is sealed on bottom side at the top.
The capillary action of water is an amazing thing.

Hi Rosie, did you solve this issue mine did the same and was blocked drains from the sun roof. There are 2 drains in the front corners blew them out with compressed air and no problem since.
