  • Getting injectors done in Perth - PROPERLY

Hi All. Long time since I've been here. Life... you know.

Anyhow - still got the Prado but I live full time in Perth these days. Not how I envisaged it to be but it's happened.

Now - this injector issue has finally found me too. I *knew* it was coming because of what I read here all that time ago.

First - ############# - Can't thank you enough for your *really* good post on the D4D issues. A very big thank you from me.

Late 2007 D4D GX which I have mainly fed on BP Ultimate - Because I knew it was about the best I could do in terms of kind(ish) diesel to run through it.

It just clocked over to 120 thou on the Odometer - so I chuckled a bit when I saw #######'s signature. Yesterday, Toyota dealer has told me that injectors 2 and 4 are now running "Out Of Spec". I asked how far out of spec, but they said the results they get don't show them that. Basically just a "good" or "not good" situation. Toyota said 4k to fix. I couldn't help it but I think I swore..... ha ha. Then they rang back and said 3k with some fancy footwork with the books on their end. Reading here - that seems about the price.

First thing. Toyota said to me there were *no* recalls on the Prado injectors. Period. But I read here there IS one on the injector seats - which also covers checking/cleaning the oil pickup. Do I have that right? If so - where can I point my dealership to look if they jack up about that? Can I check what injector seats I have myself?

Second Thing Can anyone point me in the direction of someone in Perth I can approach to get my injectors replaced - who knows what they're doing? I want #######'s list of 3 issues looked at by someone who is no BS. If anyone's had this done at a Toyota dealership in Perth and can recommend them then I'd be grateful for that low down. Or a diesel specialist who wont BS me around the place.

I had begun noticing the engine idling a shade rougher than I remembered - but there's not much in it for now. Starts instantly and doesn't blow smoke that I can see. A tad of black under heavy acceleration I think but that's all I can see so far. Any danger in coasting out the next 4 -5 months (while I get the dosh ready) and then getting the injectors done? Or - it really should be now??

    Cheers for any help guys.

    Thank you, my pleasure.

    New injectors + new pipes.
You could ask for labour price then get parts off me lol....

If its an 07, you should have a customer service exercise. ( free labour :-) )

Just call me & will give you advice. Please email your details & I will call.
    It's priority, save your engine.

Hey ####. Thanks for your help. :-).

Whaaaaaaat????....... free labour on 07's........ What is the story there? Think I missed the boat there.

Getting married in 2 weeks. Yep..... at 40. So I'll park the Prado if I have to. Trust me.... I have *no* money at the moment. I'll see if I can swing it in a month.

Will contact & have a chat though.

        R u handy on tools?
When I get time I might try & put together a d.i.y that will be included with injector purchase.

Regarding the injector seat recall, I had mine done at the last service (150k), together with the tow bar recall - all covered by Toyota.

I read that the copper seats were installed from 2005 until August 2007 - when the aluminium seats were introduced. Yeesh - pretty sure mine is August 07 build. Will double check that. Maybe that is why Toyota never flagged mine to check the seats.

Anyone in Perth had their injectors done? I may swing by A1 Diesel Injection On Great Eastern Highway as they are near me. Anyone been there?

I'm pretty sure you have copper. Unless they have already been out.
Usually up to 12/07 in 120's.

I could run the techstream on your car and see what the injector feedback values are. You run the risk of blowing the engine, like happened to mine at 73,000km. No smoke and no rattle. Mine is Nov 2008 build. You should also dump the oil and have a look up the sump at the filter screen. Easy enough.

Ok thanks ####. I'm pretty sure I haven't had the injectors touched. I've had the bullbar mountings and towbar looked at as part of recalls but fairly certain the injectors have *never* been mentioned by Toyota. Hmmmmmm. Oh well.. no use crying over it. But I do wonder whether I could save on some labour if I call in the injector seat recall and get the injectors replaced at the same time. Might be worth a try. Seems odd they flagged everything else and not this.

Thanks too Bushbasher. Appreciate your offer of help. Frikkin silent killer then by the sound of it - or it can be. United Fuel Injection has quoted me a little over 2K to fit Denso injectors and code them in, and also check the EGR. They can also re-map the ECU for performance gains now they say as well - instead of going the chip route. May consider just going with them - they seem to have a reasonable reputation. This just has to be done by the sound of it.

Not so shoddy with a set of tools. Probably wouldn't take on the injectors anyhow though, but the oil change and filter screen check is fair game.

Sounds like a good choice mate, original injectors, they may not be hyped up on the internet but you know what you are getting yourself in for. With new seats you should be fine

A little final info to close out this thread for people in Perth.

It was very lucky I used the Prado sparingly since I found out the injectors needed doing. Feedback values were as follows.

                      1) 0.2
                      2) -3.2
                      3) -2.7
                      4) 5.0

Although nobody would say what the consequences would be for not changing out the injectors pronto - from reading here I knew it could not be ignored. Like I said - all I noticed was a little rough idle and no more than that. If you've driven diesels for years you probably wouldn't think much of it - as I admit I didn't. .....Though I did know of the D4D's injector issues from being a member here.

I did go with United Fuel Injection on Great Eastern Highway. They are the agents for Denso in Perth as it happens. Cost $2,300 to do. They also say that before doing this work, they check your feedback values - and if the the job *doesn't* need doing they will tell you that first before going ahead and doing anything. Not a fancy office/workshop but they know all about this stuff.

They put in new Denso injectors with new seals and changed out the fuel filter. They also recoded the injectors to the ECU. All stock standard stuff for them. Toyota wanted over 3K to do this job for me.

They said there was no evidence of seal leaks etc etc so because money is very tight for me right now I've left it at that for now. Though with the next oil change I'll be checking the pickup in the sump.

Anybody need a set of injector fuel lines - brand new unopened - let me know and you can have them for a carton or equivalent.

A1 did the work on my old 80 series and I was very impressed with the service and attitude. Even when I had already paid and arrived to pick up the car, they still took the time to show me the old parts and how it all worked and what they had repaired.
