  • VX/Kakadu 09-12 OEM Stereo/Sat Nav System Upgrade

    Hi All
I'm sure this question has been done to death... but i will ask it again... is there a aftermarket double dim unit that will fit a 09-12 Prado VX/Kakadu that will not loose any functions either on the steering, front/rear and side cameras, 2nd row screen in ceiling (kakadu verison?) etc...

Closest thing i have found is this
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/252476084...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Has anyone managed upgrade without loosing functionality?

    Thanks in advanced Alex!

    Hey Alex,

I am after the same answers mate. I have a 2012 ZR (same set up as a Kakadu I think) I cannot seem to get anywhere on this. I find it amazing that there isn't an upgrade out there that can do the same things (or better) as 2012 technology but that seems to be the way it is.

I would probably even consider losing the side cameras if push came to shove.

I know I've mentioned this many times in previous threads but perhaps consider adding an ipad mini or similar underneath the climate control unit. Mine is on hinges so I can swivel it up to access the disc changer though I never do. I can also remove it very easily if I ever sell the car.

My phone connects to the factory unit via bluetooth. The ipad connects to the factory unit via a USB cable to give me ipod integration. I've hidden the cabling very well under the centre console. The ipad's bluetooth connects to my Ultragauge Bluetooth dongle plugged into my OBD connector under the dash. When I'm home the ipad connects to my home's wifi to ensure everything is up to date including my maps (I have Tom Tom, Metroview, and Hema). The ipad is a 3G unit too so I have a nice tablet for browsing. Plus I can easily remove it and use it offshore as a GPS using the fantastic Navionics app. I had all of these apps already on my phone so they came across without any added cost. I think I paid $15 for the Metroview nav app about 4 or 5 years ago and it has been updating regularly ever since. I got Tom Tom in 2007 when it was first released and it too has been updating the maps ever since for no added cost.

I've had this in for a year now and it hasn't missed a beat. It's like Apple car play but is so much more powerful. Did I mention that I also have a Broadlink wifi infrared module in my home and their app is installed on the ipad so I can easily check my home's inside ambient temperature and, if needed, turn the aircon on remotely in my home when driving home

You can also use the ipad with a wifi dash cam or rear mounted wifi caravan/trailer monitor too.

        Hi alphas103 <-- Totaly Agree!
Hi MacroP <-- I can understand what you are doing there but i prefer (if possibly to be able to use or upgrade the screen itself....

I have also been speaking to a few audio joint here in melbourne and they are asking for $120 bucks to pull my dash apart and have a look... lol

was hope to fin out if anyone has installed http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/252476084...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT ?? and if it works that would be the best option... ?

or if anyone can tell me if the newer models 2016 cars that have this setup can be make to fit the older cars?

          Hey Guys,

I have a 2009 VX. So only back camera. You can replace the head unit as I have done. But you will lose the camera's as they are all 6v. This is my setup.

I have a VX and have just replaced the head unit with a Kenwood DDX9016DABS to get Apple Car Play and DAB radio. There a few things that you are going to need. The first is a device that will communicate with the factory amp. Unless you want to replace the factory AMP. Otherwise for about $250 this will communicate with the amp. Turn it on, do balance ect. It also will do steering wheel controls. It's a PAC Radio Pro 4. http://stingeraustralia.com.au/produ...ota-interface/ You will need to replace your camera at the rear same for the front as they are only 6V.

The second thing you will need is a facia kit about $150 http://stingeraustralia.com.au/what-...oducts/418/575

You will need to track down a pocket. This wasn't required for me as i had the screen that i moved down. Try a wrecker first then Toyota.

Then lastly an antenna adapter. About $20. http://stingeraustralia.com.au/what-...oducts/418/541

Let me know if you get stuck. I'm in Sydney and happy to point you in the right direction.

Racxp - can you relocate the current factory screen to the bottom radio slot and run your cameras and other factory info from down there and then install a new head unit in the top slot?

That would be great thanks mate. So the factory screen retains the same camera functionality along with fuel use data etc?

Just Rang Denso - Hopefully they can help by either offering an firmware update or a unit swap? who knows...

No luck.... Need to go to an aftermarket dealership that has a clue...

I seconded .I'm watching this thread as I have the same thing, alexchatz has a good find. Did you try to ask the seller if it fits without losing any functionalities? If anyone install this please let us know the outcome. Thanks.
