I have attached a link to a youtube video I created showing the torque converter lockup problem I am encountering.

Is anyone else seeing this kind of problem?

In cruise control mine will generally stay in 6th at 100, sometimes it will take its time going back from 5th to 6th and I thought that may be something to do with dpf regen? With the foot pedal though mine is happy to stay in 5th all day and I need to back off to let it change up to sixth then carefully put enough pedal to maintain speed and gear. A touch too much pedal and it's straight back to 5th. Annoying.

@Wildfire - are you seeing changes between 5th and 6th, or between 6th no lockup versus 6th with lockup? Because there is no visual indication of the gear you are in, the subtle drop in revs at 100 is the lockup kicking in and out I think. For a while, I thought I had a 7 speed!

It goes 300-400rpm different, I have always assumed it's 5th?

I booked mine in for the firmware update just now, I wasn't too bothered but going up a circular on ramp to a motorway the last couple of times at around 63km/hr at light throttle it jolts almost like as if someone pumped the clutch in and out or like the motors coughing. It did it 3 times yesterday going up the ramp like it doesn't know what gear it wants to be in. Hoping the update sorts it out! Cheers for the info posted in here!

Wildfire, that sounds like exactly what mine has been at Toyota to diagnose! It occurs under light acceleration, around 1300-1400 rpm in what I'd assume is 4th. It may be a coincidence but has only occurred going around slight bends in the road.. only does it in the right conditions and is quite rare, maybe once every 30 min of urban driving.

I just picked it up from 3 days at Toyota where they've been trying to get to the bottom of it and am yet to confirm if it's still doing it or not. So far so good.

On this particular piece of road mine has done it a few times, I've just got to be at the right speed for it to happen, as soon as I get the firmware update I will be testing it there to see if there's any change.

Any updates, is it still better since the firmware update?

I'd like to know too - ive been putting of the request as once you've had the firmware updated there is no going back!

LSKI - have you done yours, you describe my issue perfectly?
                      Cheers

Does anyone know the actual firmware number for this update? My dealer says that my car has the latest, but without a number to compare it against, I can't really say Thanks.

I agree it'd be good if we knew how to check! My gxl had the firmware upgrade today, no problems at the dealer, all under warranty and they seemed well aware of the upgrade. I just need a bit of driving time to see if there's any improvement. For what it's worth mine is plated March 2016.

Interesting someone else has the issue!

So I had the firmware upgrade and the injector re-learn. I think it drives better and a bit quiter, but it seems to still do the miss (if you can call it that) as described earlier. Toyota has been good but I can't replicate it was them in the car so I think they are reluctant to spend any more time on it.. it's not bad but it's still a bit annoying.

Had the FW checked on my car and the version I currently have is (Engine and ECT) 360X2400 which is apparently the latest. Can someone who did the upgrade please confirm if that's what you have too?

How do you check this or does it require the service centre to do so?

                                Thanks
