Disabled as in turned off via the switch?, or are you pulling a fuse?

I will start testing with the ESC turned off via the switch as I think I can replicate it most times I change up from 3rd to 4th on one specific corner.
    Cheers

LSKI you describe the exact issue I have and I can regularly make mine do the cough/misfire on a certain motorway on-ramp. I'll have to try your theory as well.

Is anyone experiencing excessive engine braking down hill. Not my car but my boss has a 150 and is saying he is getting excessive engine braking on anything from 110km/h on the freeway where he is going downhill and lifts of the throttle and it it like it is changing back to fourth, think Mooney Mooney on the F3 freeway in NSW to travelling at 60km/h and does the same on Victoria Rd through Top Ryde heading west. It is going in the 10k service next week and he is going to raise it with the dealer but wants to be armed with some info first.

The original discussion was in 2016, when the 6-speed box was new. More recent models, and any earlier Prado that has had the DPF software update (like mine), would have has the ECU updated. I think that your only option, if you are bothered by the torque converter is not locking up in sixth, is to hold the gearbox back in 5th with the 'S' mode.

                      hi geewhizz.
I have a 2016 Prado, and what I have been told that my Prado has had the update for the dpf done, the Prado still has a problem with the 6th gear not locking up, and if it does you will need to be on a flat bit of road at lease going slightly downhill and it will go into 6th and lock up, but as soon as you poot the foot down slightly it's out of 6th or start going uphill ever so slightly it's out of 6th gear, any ideas thanks.

Use S mode and push it forward to 6th twice or hold it forward for a few seconds. (If thats the + way) It should drop into 6th earlier. They are known for unlocking at any throttle, but this helps a bit. Apart from that, a trans re-tune or have a stocklock torque converter lockup fitted. will help it to lock earlier.
