  • Need some advice

    Hey Guys ,

I am totally new to 4WD and have decided to trade-in my Honda Crv that has served me well for the last 3 years(shes an old girl with about 270,000kms on the clock) in favor of a Prado GXL 2012-2014.
I am based out of Melbourne.
My budget is a grand total of 50k and I am hoping that there will be some left.

I am looking at getting a Toyota certified used car , from a Toyota Dealership in 2 weeks.

Any advice on dealerships around Melbourne ?
Am I doing the right thing by going to a dealer?

    Cheers

    SR

While you will probably get a better deal in a private buy, a dealer used is probably a safer bet...probably. You might even be able to get the dealer to throw in a freebie or 2 - think floor mats/tow bar etc if not already included.
There's plenty of Melburnians that will be able to point you in the direction of a decent dealer - There are bound to be a few!
It might be worth considering travelling to a "country" dealer to see what they can do (Im thinking Kyneton, Pakenham or Geelong). All depends how far you want to travel.

its certainly possible, for reference, only last week i picked up a Toyota Certified 03/2014 GXL with 97k km $47,750 drive away

Carsales will generally have every used car for sale at any dealership in the whole country, and my experience is they don't hang around for long

Also, consider other dealers, who also have "certified" used vehicles. You local Holden/Ford etc may have one avialable for the right price.

Just don't use the dealers for mechanical work, spare parts only

To dig an old thread up again, I saved up a little more over the last few months and just put the deposit down on a brand new GXL 2017, at Brighton Toyota.
The EOFY sales were on and I got a decent bargain , with a bullbar, tints, roof racks and mats thrown in.

                Car coming in two weeks

Cant wait, its a dream come true!

They tried upselling the Paint Protection Package to me , I passed.
Didnt see the value in it and everything online seems to point at it as a waste of money.

I got the black. Never owned a black car before , should be interesting.

Paint protection works. But I'd be buying it after getting the car from an independent.
Black is a bitch to keep clean. I have a black one.

Paint protection is pretty varied (and expensive from the dealers), it depends on what they use. There are plenty of different products out there and they all have pros and cons. Find a local detailer as usually have some good stuff or check out some forums (autopia.com is good).

                          Cheers,

I was a non believer in the 'extra's' like paint protection but thought, what the hell I will give it a go..

After 40,000km in the last two years, Fraser Island, Robe to Beachport, Flinders Rangers and numerous other 4x4 tracks, our Silver Prado scrubs up like brand new after every wash! Is it the paint protection..? I guess I will never know.. but I have taken out so many 'pinstripes' from our bus and I would certainly opt for the paint protection again and again. Couldn't be happier with it.
