  • Anyone else with 2.8l having troubles getting quotes for 40mm-50mm lift?

Hey all, trying to get pricing 2" lift for the 2.8l. I have sent a few quote requests out but still no real luck. I have been told the curb weight is 90kg less than the 3.0l, the question i get asked is whether that is all in the engine or distributed throughout the vehicle? It seems like many havent done many 2.8l setups as yet.

I was running Caloffroad Billies and Dobbos in my 2012 3.0l and was happy with the setup but can't get anyone to respond from Caloffroad.

Can anyone recommend anyone in Melbourne who i can give me a quote?

Was considering OME as they gave me a general price without getting into the nitty gritty of front and rear loads.

I have already had Kaymar rear step fitted with front bar going on Monday and the thing is already handling like a wet thong so wanna get this sorted asap.

    Any help appreciated 👍🏻

I'm booked in for OME install at the ARB Kilsyth, Melbourne HQ 17th Nov. Was no drama getting a quote, even with KDSS.

                  Interesting.
My woes started 6 months ago, 2016 build 2.8l GXL. There appears to be some sort of difference in the 2.8L ride height and possibly swaybar location.

I had TJM 4000 series fitted when I first bought the car 6 months ago, the front sagged back to factory height almost straight away and the swaybar was also banging on the strut. TJM have been scratching their head for months trying to sort it out. Still not sorted ! Apparently the 2.8l needs a longer strut and spring and also needs a swaybar spacer similar to what Ironman sell for Prado to space the swaybar away from the strut. Be interesting to see what ARB have come up with.

Can you post part numbers for your TJM gear? Did they add spacers under the coil seat?

Some vehicles need swaybar spacers. Others don't. It is on a case by case basis.

                      Hey,

There are possibly several issues with your TJM struts.

TJM have a bad habit of using short open length struts with very thick coil seat spacers, up to 20mm thick, even more in some cases. The 4000 series struts in their older version are actually the same strut as a Driveline Services Durashock, with unmodified open length around 540mm, same as OEM length (120 spec, but TJM use same in 120 and 150). This means typically low droop figures for the TJM front strut assembly, and quite a high preload as the coils are up past the OEM coil seat height.

The front swaybar rubbing issue can be fixed in most cases by rotating the coil seats highest point in a direct line with the swaybar.

The sagging is due to improper scragging of the coils. If coils are not pre-scragged properly to close to their final working height, they will display continuous settling. I have seen particularly bad cases of this with Dobinsons coils. TJM tend to use King coils, and I have not seen as much settling with Kings.

As amts asked, can you list the part codes you have?

The 2.8 is not some kind of special case geometrically speaking. You have just copped some poor length suspension and crappy fitters.

Hi Mark, yes crappy installers, don't get me started on them.. has been a complete debacle..
I will have a look at the original invoice and see what p/ns were used.

Got my car back today from ARB HQ today. They are very comprehensive with the install, taking full measurements and alignments before and after. Interesting the lean it had from factory - 15 mm difference at the rear.

Hi guys, p/n of the springs fitted to the front are 770FRHD88IT but I can't find any reference to the "T" on the end of the p/n stamped on the coil in any TJM catalogue. I can't see the strut p/n but am presuming it is 659XS188L. These p/ns are quoted for 120/150 series, Hilux and FJ Cruisers. Replacement of all the front suspension is happening Monday so will be interesting to see what they do..
