The Prado's weight limit on the roof is only 100kg. And this weight includes the roof rack. The backbone does not increase what you can carry on the roof. The backbone is also heavier than the 6 leg mounting system. So essentially, fitting the backbone reduces what you can carry up top.

Thanks again amts, glad I have you looking out for my safety

So it's not as much of an increase as I'd thought, but still about +25kg over the factory rails. I'll weigh my gear again but it should manage the tent.

Edit: actually, maybe less than +25kg, looks like the factory rails will take 80kg, I thought it was only 70kg. Either way I needed the upgrade to take the tent.

Just be careful. There are probably lots of 4WDs out there with overloaded roofracks. More of a safety concern if over the limit and causing a rollover and then insurance denying a claim if discovered.

I weighed the gear last night and I'm under 100kg including the weight of the backbone and rack, so all good.

Rhino definitely advertise it as a 120kg weight limit on the 150. Not sure how they can say it's higher than the load rating for the roof when it uses to the same mounting points as the factory rails?

Dual batteries went in last week. I went with an Amptech D70Z 105Ah deep cycle and Redarc sbi12 isolator. The work was done by Batteries Direct in Sailsbury through a friend-of-a-friend. The price was great, ARB quoted >$1000 more for similar kit.

The 105Ah is tight in a petrol, but it fits. The aircon pipe was bent and the power steering reservoir relocated to accomodate it - you might notice the reservoir is on an angle as it wouldn't fit otherwise. We checked with toyota and they confirmed it will cause "no problems at all", it's a sealed unit, but my OCD is kicking in and I'm planning to make or adjust the bracket to straighten it anyway.

The Redarc isolator is mounted on the passenger side guard. I didn't need a DC-DC charger as the 2010 model 150's don't have the smart alternator. I've only had the fridge in a few days but it looks like it's charging fine without one.

Engel and cigarette plugs are in the rear tucked in the side compartment. The Waeco CFX50 I'm running has an Engel style plug, I guess Waeco decided it's a better design.

I have an anderson plug mounted on the front under the light bar for connecting solar panels. Seemed like a convenient spot, it's not too noticable with the dust cover on and it's not far from the battery, so voltage drop will be low. Solar panels are on order and should arrive soon so I'll get to try it out camping this weekend

Added a kings awning. Dirt cheap at $89 + postage. Quality seems similar to every other awning I've seen.

I went with the 2m x 2.5m so that it's pretty much the same length as the rack.

I cut and re-painted the three brackets it came with so they didn't foul on the storage box I carry. It's mounted to the pioneer platform with m8 slot channel nuts and bolts I had spare.

I bent my factory side steps on a recent trip to Saunder's Gorge. It's hard to see in the photos but it's bent up by ~2".

Not too much of a worry, there's no panel damage, and it's a good excuse to upgrade to some steel ones. I'm looking at the ones from powerful 4x4, the price is definitely right and they get reasonably good reviews.

The factory bash plates got a bit of a work out too, but they're holding up fine.

They can be straightened. Take them off and sit them on some blocks 30-40 cm out from the bend. Place under the tow bar or similar and use the jack from the step to the tow bar as a press. Raise jack until the bar bends a bit past straight. Lower jack and check step is straight. If not , repeat and bend it a fraction further. This will make it look ok until you get the steel steps.

Thanks for the tip. I'm sorting out funds for the steps at the moment, if it's going to be a while before I can replace them I'll give it a go.

I installed some BOSS recovery points from fnb4wd this afternoon. Fairly straight forward thanks to instructions on pp, this picture shows it well: http://s28.postimg.org/u9usnoc7h/Second.jpg

Basically remove one TJM bolt and loosen the second bolt to let the backing plate pivot down and make room for the recovery point plate. The plate on the BOSS points has two nuts but I only needed the one, so I cut one off which allowed it to fit without overlapping the TJM plate at all.

Passenger side installed. The recovery points overlap the top washer, I used washers behind both bolts to space it out to match.

Driver's side. There's not much clearance between the recovery point and the washer bottle. I had to cut some of the plastic guard to fit. From reading other members rig build ups I think this is only an issue with the petrol. I can't see the missing piece of guard being an issue, it sits pretty flush.

                      The cut guard.

I finally installed the Grande Mk III today. The supplied bolts for the winch were too long, I swapped them for some 35mm ones, but other than that it was pretty straight forward. I mounted the control box to the right of the winch using the supplied bracket. The cables were just long enough to fit without extending them.

Photo while I had the grill off before tidying things up.

The clutch and control box are easily reached through the hole in the t13 bar. The wireless remote receiver is just plugged in for the photo, it will usually sit in the glove box.

I added some bushskinz bash plates on the weekend. Many PPers would know of them already thanks to the group buy (I missed it unfortunately but still bought during a 15% off sale). They're made from 4mm steel so much stronger than the OEM guards which are a token effort at best.

I only got the front and sump guard, not the transmission guard. The transmission sits so much higher and I can't see myself doing anything extreme enough that it'll be impacted. I've also heard guards can obstruct airflow to the trans, not sure if there's truth to that but I didn't want to install one if it's not needed.

They didn't come with installation instructions, I followed the ones linked from this thread: http://www.pradopoint.com.au/showthr...-advice-needed. I'm sure if you emailed them they'd send instructions through. It's pretty straight forward, took <30mins. The hardest part is lifting them while you bolt them in place

I cleaned the underbody after this photo, the new plates made the rest look terrible

UPDATE: It only lasted two trips It didn't hold up well when hitting overhanging trees - first it got caught and pulled the attachment off the bar (stripped the thread). I zip tied it on after that and the next tree tore the elastic cord inside the poles. I've just ordered a minewhip flag.

I made a sand flag for an upcoming trip to robe/beachport. Not the most exciting update but it might be useful for someone. Total cost if you bought it all new would be <$30 and you'd have sections of pole left over for another flag.

The pole is a 9.5mm fibreglass tent pole. Total length is a bit over 2m. The fittings are 1/4" Nitto quick-connect air fittings - one 10mm barb coupler, with the barb press fit into the pole, another male plug bolted to the bar. Easy to connect/disconnect and the connection feels solid, hopefully it holds up in the dunes.

The flag is a bunnings trailer flag attached with gaffa tape and zip ties

It's nice and compact when it folds up, much smaller than the 1m sections of most pre-made ones.

I fitted some seat covers from Supafit in grey denim on the weekend.

I was looking at black duck covers but couldn't justify the cost. These are about half the price but quality and fit is still great. They're made to order in Perth and took about a week from ordering to arriving at my door.

We're heading to Tassie soon and will be pretty much living out the car for a month - these should keep the inevitable food/drink spills from the kids at bay

Took a trip down to Robe recently and had some fun in little dip conservation park and Cannunda national park. The sand flag I made held up nicely, not that we saw many other cars.

The beaches were very soft and we had to bypass a couple because of washouts, but other than that it was a pretty cruisy drive, the prado handled it easily.

Definitely recommend checking out Cannunda national park if you're down that way, the coast is beautiful and the dunes are 10 x better than the conservation park.
