It's made by a PP member. You can buy there here: https://www.kaon.com.au/store/p47/Re...us_GX_460.html

Added a Kaon 30L underbody water tank, quality piece of kit. 30L doesn't sound like much but it's a whole lot more convenient than water drums inside the car and frees up space for other cargo.

I made a ceiling cargo net for storing light things - hats, jumpers etc. It keeps stuff a bit more organised on long trips and seemed like a good way of using some unused space above my kids heads I was looking at nets made by a US company called Rainer but with shipping it came to almost $200, so I sewed this myself using some grunt webbing and quick-release clips from bunnings and a mesh trailer cover that I cut a section out of. Total cost for 1 net was ~$20 and I've made a few for friends out of the one trailer cover with mesh still left over. The straps attach to the middle and rear grab handles. You can adjust them to raise and lower the net. Even with a bit of give to fit things in it sits high enough that it doesn't obstruct the view out the rear window.

Close up of the strap so you an see how it's made:

Love it. Super use of that space. My kids are always loosing hats and jackets in the car on big trips. Would you be willing to make any more? I'd buy one in a heart beat.

I thought about making more but I'm not great at sewing, it took me way longer than I'd like to admit and I'd be working for a few $/hr if I was selling them for a reasonable price!

Does anyone know where this goes?

...that's a progress shot while I had the steering column knocking/clicking sound fixed. I posted the solution in this thread: https://www.pradopoint.com.au/forum/...930#post746930

Couple of photos from a recent East->West Simpson Desert crossing. I'm really happy with how the car's setup these days, we cruised through the desert without getting stuck and without a single mechanical issue. The rear table and 270 awning make for a great cooking space. I carried an extra 40L of petrol in 4 x 10L jerries, tipped them in as I emptied the main tank and made it to Mt Dare with 1/4 tank left. We travelled from Bridsville, followed the QAA and French line with a 60km bypass for Eyre creek and ended at Mt Dare via Dalhousie, totalling 560km. We used up to 30L/100km in the middle of the desert where there are constant dunes but averaged about 25L/100 overall - not bad considering we pretty much at GVM when we left, if not a little over, and the East->West crossing is up the steeper side of the dunes. Tires were at 25psi for the dirt roads in and out and 16psi for the dunes.

I didn't realise this was a petrol as well.

Yeah, not available anymore but the petrols are great. They're a nicer drive, especially if it's a daily. You can overtake on the highway with ease. Super reliable, maybe even more reliable than a similar age diesel with their injector issues (mine's a 2010). Running costs are about the same when you factor in services being cheaper and not needing to do injectors every ~100k. Slightly more payload because the petrol engine is lighter but the GVM is the same. Lots of reasons to like them

The only downside for me is the range but long trips are rare and carrying jerry cans isn't too bad. I don't tow either, if I was towing I'd probably go for a diesel for the extra torque and economy while towing.

It's been a while since I've posted, mostly because the car is setup pretty much exactly how I wanted, but I've just upgraded the tyres.

The new set are Micky Thompson's, I was happy with the last ones after over 100,000kms. These are BAJA ATZ P3's, they're a "hybrid" tyre, 50% road and 50% mud/dirt. A bit more bite on the sidewalls and a bit more aggressive tread pattern than the last set. I've also gone up one size from the stock tyres to 265/70/R17's. I would have gone this size for the first set if I'd known about it at the time, the speedo correction is nice and they'll be a bit more capable off road.

I've mounted an ARB single compressor in the engine bay behind the air filter using a kaon bracket. I was using a portable compressor until now and storing it under the passenger seat but my kids are growing and needed the space back for their feet. There's also a 3d printed dust cap but it's not attached in the photo.

Also relocated the rear camera so that I can still use it when running a bin bag.

And while I was on my kaon shopping spree I added their storage cage to the table to store some of our frequently used gear.

I also managed to snap my Uniden UHF antenna over some serious corrugations recently - we watched as it got up a wobble and tore itself apart.

I've upgraded to a 2.1dbi fibreglass GME and I can't see this one breaking, it's about as tough as they get.
