I'll be finding out more tonight when I get the car assessed. Both the panel beater and ARB said they have been through the process before. Fingers crossed.

Glad I saw this thread! I'm booked in for a rear bumper insurance repair next week and I never thought about getting a rear bar instead.

I'll be calling the insurer tomorrow. I'm sure the repair cost will be less than a kaymar, but if the difference isn't too much I'd jump at it.

So it looks like a plastic bumper replacement is going to work out roughly $1000 cheaper than a Kaymar so that's probably out of the equation.
I'll find out more in the coming days.

Kaymar is the most expensive rear wheel carrier, but there are other brands available.

Ours has a MCC bar with dual wheel carriers. There is a dealer in Melbourne on ebay $1890.00 plus freight.

How do you find the quality, fit and finish of the MCC and how long have you had it on for?
I was a bit weary of going down the Chinese route.

That will still save you $1000, good deal, if you have the $1000. Not to mention the installation costs

I cannot now remember if the post was about MCC product or powerfull 4x4, but it was not good, do a research on the MCC before you commit. As I said, not sure which product it was, but the review was not good.

Our MCC bar has been on the Prado since 2012/13. Done several outback trips, including a recent large outback trip across the top of NT and WA including the Gibb River Road, the Tanami Track etc. All over the Flinders since the bar was installed.

The number plate bracket mounted on the left hand wheel did have a fail, and MCC updated the design and sent us a better replacement.

Other than that, there has been no problem with the MCC bar. It just works. Structurally, I don't think there is much between them. Maybe there is a styling difference, but have never been able to park our 120 next to another 120 with a Kaymar bar. Given the approximate $2-3000 difference, the Kaymar _should_ be better, but who knows?

Would you be able to post some pics of the bar please? Does it go all the way to the back wheels? Do you need to cut the existing plastic bar? Thank you.

                      Hi.

On the 120, the rear bumper has a join to the side wheel extension flares.

When the rear bumper is removed, the MCC bar butts to those extensions. There is a gap filled with some rubber strip. The standard rear bumper is completely removed and replaced by the MCC bar.

Thank you for the pictures. Clear as mud, just kidding :-). So you had no issues with the bar. I had a look at their webpage, it states that there are slots for high lift jack in the back and on the sides, it does not look like there are slots on the sides.

My insurer was happy for me to pay the difference and get a bar, but I've decided to give it a miss.

The repairs weren't as expensive as I was expecting, which would have meant an mcc bar not a kaymar. It's still tempting but if I'm honest I can do without one, and I'd rather keep the weight down and stay below GVM.

On the side of the bar, you can see a round plug below the wheel carrier pivot point. It is a removable rubber plug. We don't use a high lift jack so cannot confirm they work well, but that is what they are.

The other thing to consider with the MCC bar and others is they rely on utilising the factory Towbar including the 120 pictured with the shitty cast Towbar which was subject to a recall.
The Kaymar incorporate a Towbar as part of the structure.
New 2015 150s GX 5 seater with floor mats, towbar and a big wish list
Previously a 2004 120s 1KZ GX silver manual with stuff
before that a 1996 RV6 90S with lots of gear

I didn't particularly want to spend the extra $1000+ dollars if I didn't have to and would still be happy with a plastic bar.
Was mainly going for the Kaymar if it was going to be minimal difference.
The MCC is still an option but I'm still weary of quality. Photoprado's post is reassuring though.
