  • Bearing in AirCon unit noisy

    Hi
Have a grinding/squealing noise from front bearing assembly of Air Con Compressor, anyone have suggestions on best way to resolve this?
03 120 Series Petrol, 252,000km on clock and Air Con runs like clockwork

Reluctant to price a new Compresor as being Toyota original one should run for another 15 years (I wish)

Probably have to remove compressor either way to resolve but intertested to hear from any genius out there who has resolved this successfully

Happy Australia Day! and thanks for looking

    HI JEBBS
The noise that you describe may not be coming from the A/C compressor.
The V6 runs a multi rib drive belt, it runs around the crank pulley three idler pulleys the alternator, power steering pump, a belt tensioner pulley and of course the A/C compressor.
    Further info here;http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forum...e-what-do.html
Prado point members have also posted many threads on the subject.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers

        Hi Foxclan,
Thanks for the heads up, I can confirm the issue is with the A/C compressor bearing (good mechanic with trusted diagnosis)
Thanks for the links to the idler bearings as well.
Will look through PP for more info on the A/C bearing (just replacement of bearing if possible)
Again, any info people can pass on would great

        Cheers Brett

Before you pull the A/C compressor , try some a bar of dry soap on the drive belt, the full length of the belt that makes contact with pulley,s. If you do this with the engine running be careful of the moving parts. Even tape it to a piece of broom handle.
          good luck

If it is doing it with the aircon switched off the clutch unit is faulty most likely, if it is doing it with the aircon on could be either belt slip or the bearing in either the clutch or the compressor possibly allowing the pulley to rub.

If the compressor bearing was gone I would have thought it would ruin the seal and you would have lost the gas.

Before you touch an refrigerant lines or remove the compressor see if you can remove the electric clutch and check it out.

Cheers, noise is there regardless of on/off. Aircon works fine all the time

Removing the Electric clutch is an option, however in pricing it from Toyota, the Electric Clutch assembly is worth more than replacing the entire A/C unit (Someone screwed up the prices)

Finding an A/C unit new is the challenge, all seem to be Ex-Japan (3 weeks)

                Final update,
Swapped out the Air Con compressor and now quiet as a mouse.
The Front magnetic drive assembly bearing was absolutely stuffed!

Thanks for all the input, much appreciated

There not as expensive as you might think, the clutch pulley is the expensive bit, ive a new compressor just waiting for the pulley from japan
