  • Dual 2 Din Headunit Setup for GXL

    Best mod i've done far,

Firstly I wanted a dedicated GPS / reverse camera in the upper portion of the dash,
we've never used any voice on navigation and the factory GPS offers minimal features (road speed etc)

The only thing available off the shelf for the 150 prado is a 2Din facia and a relocation plate for the tiny reverse monitor.

I bought the face plate: Aerpro FP9166 ($89)

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/1M5F...ew?usp=sharing

And also the patch lead to use the factory wiring but use the RCA output to the 2 Din unit. ($16)

Here's what annoyed me, The factory unit gets 12v signal to the screen via reverse signal, then outputs 5v to the camera.
so... in turn I had to either remove the factory radio entirely and use this awful relocation plate and rely on my yum-cha head unit with horrible radio and bluetooth .
Or rework the 12v to use the original camera.

Using the 12v reverse signal to trigger the head unit into switching to the camera I now needed to power the factory camera,
I pulled apart a cigarette to USB car charger ($5 from woolies) and powered it with the reverse and send 5v to the camera.

Great, now I have a large screen and factory radio.

I ended up cutting the relocation camera plate to suit a double din head unit as there is no adapter plate available to do this.

Purchased the Aerpro CHT02C Steering wheel controller ($99) and harness to suit my new headunit ($14).

With the Aerpro CHT02C toyota harness the Plug the blue wire from the ISO plug is meant to be power antenna or Amp output from the head unit.. this goes into the factory AM/FM BOOSTER power wire Pin #8 on factory plug.

I found my headunit dropped down to 5v when connected (possible the booster requires more than 500ma.) anyways this wire goes to Pin #8 on the factory plug as stated and powers the AM/FM diversity booster. without this you'll have barely any reception.

I decided to loop the IGN power to pin #8 to provide the booster with more current. problem sorted.

Don't bother with buying Aerpro APA81. It's not suitable for the 150 series, even though its listed on Aerpro's website. Fortunately I held off buying it.

By doing this I've managed to get a Good GPS system and my choice of program, a large reverse camera and does not render an all in one item.
The second Unit is dedicated Radio and decent Bluetooth and bonus DAB+ and also a Front camera. and for those wondering the Aerpro Steering harness does work with the phone controls (on /off hook buttons on RHS steering wheel) something Autobarn say is a hit and a miss. My vehicle is a april 2013 GXL.

I hope this helps a few people.

Finally found it! Great thread, I'm glad to see that someone else than me thinks that relocation plate for the reverse camera is garbage. I was pretty dissapointed with the quality of the whole package, it's subpar to the toyota facia by a fair bit- Mine actually had retaining clips missing when I pulled out of the wrapping, they'd snapped off in transit. The kits don't sit in that dash especially well, and I'm not thrilled how that bottom plate that holds the info screen is retained solely by the low range control panel and those side facia panels- Have you had any issues with the panel vibrating on corrogations? There doesn't seem to be a lot holding it in.

Has anyone else purchased the Aerpro products and can comment on the quality / fitment? I wanted to fit a 2 din head unit, and was going to purchase the Aerpro kit to swap OEM screen to bottom location and have steering wheel controls still functioning, as well as to run reverse camera through new head unit screen. Worth doing?

Yeah, that's what I did. The fascia kit is okay- The quality isn't amazing but it's sufficient for what it is. It's nowhere near the quality of the Toyota unit it's replacing, I had a few of the retaining clips snap off the kit before I even had it out of it's box.

Thanks for that Atherton. Have gone ahead and ordered the facia and harness kits. (Five separate items all up, part numbers given to me by Aerpro when I rang them). Will keep an eye on the clips. Did you have any issues with the harness kits? All functions worked ok? I've gone with Alpine for the Head unit.

My headunit was a Kenwood one that came with all the adaptors, I did so have to cut and solder the steering wheel controls in though, three wires from memory.

Thanks. Found your 150 Build post last night and had a read of that.
