What should I pay (on average) for a basic suspension upgrade comprising springs, shocks, struts etc and say a 2" lift. I am based in Melb.

I was recently quoted just over $3k for Bilsteins, Ridepro front springs and Airbagman rear airbags (for a Grande), including fitting, adjustment of the height sensors and wheel align. The rear bags are about $900 the pair, presumably a pair of rear springs is a fraction of that. I'm in Canberra where everything is more expensive.

I just got prices today for a 150. 1] ARB- OME-$1450 for the parts BUT then went up to over $2000 with wheel alignment and fitting. Originally said about $2500 but when I laughed it became $2000!I also priced air bags [$295] plus installation $250!!! When I said they are going on at the same time as the rest and there is virtually no extra time to do so they said ok $110 installation. Try hards! They wont be getting my business there.I asked for the open and closed lengthts and was given: 543/413 front and 603/368 rear. Aren't those fronts too short??
2] Went across the road to the Bilstein agents who said about $ 2000 all up. Front are 555/427. Rears 693/590. However I think these are the generic numbers for the 712/713 Bilsteins ????? The brochure says can be used with original springs. Hmm..... will they suit a 50mm lift? They weren't too helpful either . They do use King springs but were loathe to tell me which ones despite me telling them exactly what was on the car in terms of weight.
Neither of these 2 Sydney heavyweights will get my work. I may use their gear but they wont be doing the installation. More looking around to be done!

That 543mm open length for the ARB strut has been incorrect since the first catalogue. The old N141S used to be 570mm, but I think they're more like 565mm now (haven't checked one for a while).
All Bilstein lengths and valving for a Prado are here;

713 is a copy of the OEM rear shock, has far too low rebound and is way too short for lifted geometry, and it is a big no no on the back of a Prado that goes off road;

Much better lengths and valving for many other Bilsteins. D563/1478LT is the best off the shelf combination you can buy now that Quadrant has shut up shop. A 660lb/in King is the best coil to run up front, what you run in the rear depends on what ride height and handling you want, I prefer a tall high rate linear coil, but King don't make high enough linear coils and the rates tend to be a bit low. The KTPR-102T fills that gap for the moment, but it is a stacker coil, and it will be coil bound at ride height in the soft section. You'll need a tall coil to match the 1478 625mm open length. I run a 430mm 280lb/in Dobinson which rides very nicely with 1478 type valving.

What are our favourite coil spring brands, guys? I am looking for a good and reliable spring supplier for my needs and I want to get your thought on it. Thanks in advance!Last edited by trevordd; 13-03-2017, 06:30 PM.
