  • DamoBro's 120

    Hey guys,

My name is Damo, i'm 25 and live in Newcastle, Nsw. I've had a 4x4 since i was 18, love camping, love being outside and just love exploring. Recently my 105 series landcruiser was involved in an accident and got written off. I was devastated at the time as i just finished building her up. (3inch lift, 35s, draws, winch, bullbar, dual bats, roofcage, uhf etc).
My next car needed to be abit more efficient on fuel, comfortable, and most importantly, wife friendly. I was drawn to 120. Ticked all the boxes, plus the huge fuel tank was an added bonus. Today was the day i purchased it. 2008, v6, 6 speed manual. Im absolutely stoked. I cant believe how much power these things have.

First mod. Supercheap has 30% off dash mats currently

Im looking forward to meeting everybody. There are some awesome prados on here.

I also have bit of money left over so i'll be able to do quiet a few mods quickly.

    Cheers

    Damo

Nice starting point! Be interesting if the petrol 120 is more efficient.

I always wanted a 100 series but I love my 120. Driven 150s but still prefer the old girl, just need the upgraded steerimg wheel with stereo controls haha.

Way more efficient. The 105 had the 1fz in her. Ran 20+ ltrs per hundred on petrol and 25+ on gas. The prado drives alot nicer, has alot more power and is very smooth. I'm very impressed so far.

Today i got a fair few little things done, changed the rego over, insured it etc. Gave the interior and engine bay a clean.

Now when i bought it i had noticed the tyres had irregularly warn, knowing i would get new tyres it wasn't a great concern. However i notice today i picked up a nail in another. Its still holding air for the time being. After reading about fitting a bigger tyre, i decided to find something to space the spare out so i wouldnt have to do it later. This is what i come up with:

Old snake racing 1 inch wheel spacer. Just needed abit of a clean up.

Worked an absolute treat. If you werent looking you wouldnt know it was there.

Also ordered some suspension. Just need to order some tyres.

Cheers. Those mods are my favourite ones, stuff you have laying around in the shed that doesnt cost anything.

Not much on todays schedule other then this. Throttle controller. After reading a few people opinions and hearing some positive stories i thought i might give it a go.

Heres after the install. Super easy to do.

There is a very noticeable difference. The throttle is way more responsive. And having the option to tone it down will also be handy doing hill starts in the bush to reduce wheel spin. Overall very happy.

Another productive day. Firstly changed the air filter, bought and mounted a fire extinguisher and gave her a good wax.

Recently i started my new job, i havent really had much time to do anything to prado. I have boxes of stuff ready to go however.

Its my birthday today, what better way to start it off then a quick mod.

Last time i had a kings awning the brackets rusted very quickly. These ones look different so i'm giving them ago, however i have ordered some good quality ones just incase.

I'll be doing doing a dual battery install very soon also. Stay tuned ( =

Still haven't gotten around to this dual battery install. Apologies.

However i did learn a lesson recently. The poor man pays twice. Since i bought the car i have had a crack in the passenger side tail light. Every time it rains it turns into a fish tank. I bought the cheapest of cheap tail lights off ebay, and my problems began. Firstly, i couldnt find bulbs that would fit in the gaps, then when i finally found something the wiring loom supplied was wrong. The indicators were where the brake light was supposed to be and vice versa. I contemplated re wiring them, thought about running them over. Eventually i decided to stop being captain tight arse and get something decent...

I love how it looks. Should of just done that in the first place.

On other news. Picked up my new suspension kit, one of the shocks were missing the boot and bushes ) = Im hoping superior can send me some asap so i can get the install happening. Then i can get tires. Happy days

I haven't had much time to do prado mods of late, my partner and i just moved houses. But we are finally settled in, and the build can continue.

Yesterday my suspension went in. I decided i only needed a 2 inch for this build. I want to keep it as close to legal as possible. When i was involved in an accident earlier this year i was worried i wasn't going to be covered as the cruiser had a big lift and 35s.

                        Here some pics

I purchased the kit from superior engineering. It was the amada 2 inch extreme kit. I decided to get this one as they had a special on it. $600, down from $980. I knew a couple of people who had previous had the amada stuff and were happy. It turns out the coils are actually dobinsons. Im over the moon about. My last set of coils were dobbos and were fantastic.

Stay tuned, tires and rims tomorrow!

                            Haven't measured yet.

But i did get my these on. I'm blown away how good it looks.

I will take a few more tomorrow.

                            I'm one happy camper

Today my partner went wedding dress shopping with her sister, which meant a day of prado mods for me... yay. I had a few hours, which was ideal for a dual battery install i have been wanting to do for a while now.

This was stage 1 of the install. Basically just getting the 2nd battery in there, wiring it up, making it look neat and ensure it is all working correctly. For this build i was tossing up whether to have the 2nd battery in the engine bay, or have it in the back. After doing some thinking, and throwing some ideas around, i ended up putting the 2nd battery in the engine bay. I also decided on a basic isolator over a dc - dc set up? Why? Effective, simple set up, and easy to trouble shoot. Plus its a bit nicer on the pocket also. Heres a few pics. Only thing that looks out of place is the small red wire in the background. I don't have any small conduit left. Tomorrows job.

2nd Battery with the Redarc SBI12

Inside controls - Haven't hooked the battery parallel switch up yet

                              Volt meter

Stage 2 consists of running 2 anderson plugs to the rear for the fridge, rewiring the factory ciggy socket in the back, and putting in a narva fuse block to keep the wiring tidy. Eventually i would like to also put a solar regulator somewhere near the 2nd battery, and have a 'quick connect' anderson plug for the panel. But at the moment the priority is getting the cabling into the back so i can start running the fridge.
