      Hey Samo,

The rear shocks were complete some time ago, and I've already field tested them.

The new strut compression curve is complete, and we've achieved the target knee velocities to maximise critical damping through the IFS motion ratio.

The rebound curve still needs digressing down in the mid-high velocity range.

It's nearly there, bit more fiddling required.

Hopefully next week if everything goes smoothly!

          Hey Piggy,

Had a great afternoon of lunch and suspension with him!

              Hey everyone,

Quick update on the Ironman struts, they are taking longer to build than I expected, and we may need new shims from the factory. Compression curve is complete, but the rebound is taking a while to tune in.

I've had some FJCC members contact me, some don't have their email options switched on so I can't reply personally to you. The PM service on PP is down at the moment, and I've got no idea if it is coming back, so if you don't have the email option switched on in your profile settings I can't contact you.

I can't rush what is a complicated valving process, but hopefully we'll have the group buy up and running within a couple of weeks!

Good to know their having so much R & D put into them, excuse my lack of knowledge but does the valving change with the spring rate we choose, eg 100kg constant rear springs compared to 400kg?

                  Hey Samo,

The valving does change depending on the coil rate you run. This is the biggest problem in the suspension field, particularly in the after market. Matching coil rates with correct valving is both a complex theoretical and experimental effort to get correct.

Unfortunately many sellers of suspension mismatch the valving/coil rate setup, which inevitably leads to undesirable kinematics such as excessive roll, pitch etc. 99% of the time when someone complains about their suspension being too stiff, it's generally not the coils that are the issue, it's a poor valving match. Any coil can be made to work properly if the correct valving is applied to it. Stiffer coiled setups can actually be nicer to drive than softer setups when the valving is correctly chosen.

When the group buy starts up I'll suggest a coil rate range that will be appropriate for the Ironmans.

Mark. Still watching this very keenly and am in for the shocks and possibly the springs. Re. springs, I was looking at the Kings site and they have progressive as well as constant rate springs for the 150. What are the relative advantages/ disadvantages of each. On my 120 with OME I had polyairs as well but I was hoping to save the $300 + these cost. Would a progressive rate spring help in this regard as most of the time the back is empty. Were OME springs from 8-9 years ago actually made by Kings? Mine had less than 10 mm of sag over 90000km so I would favour Kings again over Dobinsons which seem to sag more. Neil

                            Hey Neil,

I'm actually in the process of getting some load-deflection data for the progressive coils, which will greatly assist in terms of ride height calculations. I'll be able to discuss their properties more once I get this data.

Yes OME coils used to be made by King. I'm not sure what the current arrangement is.

Dobinsons coils do tend to display more continuous settling compared to Kings, which suggests they haven't been scragged enough.

                            More on this later!
