  • 150 Series Injector Problems Advice

    Been doing a bit of reading on this and am starting to get pretty worried.

    I just bought a diesel 150 series 2011 with 120,000 km's on the clock. Everything seems to be running fine but after reading up on the injector problems in the 150 series I can't help but to worry.

    A couple of questions related specifically to this:

    1. Does the diesel injector cleaning additive work?
    2. If the injectors were to go, does comprehensive car insurance cover this?
    3. What other preventative measures can you take to avoid this problem?

    I paid $25k for the car, so based on some of the repair figures if god forbid the injectors were to go the car would essentially be a write off.

    Buy (or borrow from a local pradopointer) a techstream software and cable - available on ebay. Check the injector values on a routine basis.

    Better to find out the injectors are going out of spec and have them replaced rather than to have an expensive engine repair or replacement.

        Get your injector feedback values tested.

        I just ran the Techstream on my brother's late 2010 150 with 120,000km on the clock. All injectors are well within spec with readings all under =- 1, total volume, SCV and fuel pump pressure figures were all good. His car has only had the basic dealer servicing from new. He has experienced some power fluctuations whilst towing and I have advised him to ensure the filters are replaced as it looks like somebody hasn't replaced the little in between tanks filter.

        As #### has suggested, new Denso injectors at this mileage will certainly help the longevity of your motoring.

            Hi Mate.

            I was in the same boat as you, bought an early 150, got worried about the injectors/engine failure situation.

            I got mine replaced at 100k for peace of mind. Also got the EGR cleaned and restricted.

            It costs a few thousand dollars but I considered it insurance. I plan on keeping the car for many more years and now I don't have that lingering doubt that the engine could fail whilst towing the boat on long trips, (or at any time for that matter). Touch Wood.
