    Power is power. V=iR

While the current draw on 240V will be lower the current that the inverter requires will be higher at 12V and takes into account tge efficiency of the inverter.

If the unit ppulls 10A at 12V then it will pull 0.5A at 240V. Still 120W plus a bees doodle for inverter losses.

That rear socket looks great Sydney Prado. I'm planning to fit a dual socket in the same place but with a new 6mm feed from my auxiliary battery so I don't drain the start battery.

The inverter output is only active when the vehicle is in accessory mode or running. So, you can't run your battery flat unless you leave the vehicle sitting in accessory mode all night, which will drain the battery whether you have a fridge or not.... It's really quite a good alternative to rooting around with a dual battery if you have the opportunity to run the fridge from an alternative power supply when stopped. Don't waste your time with cheap dual battery options, either do it properly, CTEK D250S, or, run the vehicle inverter and find an alternative power source when stopped.

This relates to an RV 3 way fridge Boneyone - the factory inverter is not up to it.

Why would you use waste $$hundreds on a DC to DC charger and call it doing in properly?

Hi Boneyone and as Michael posted.

For a starter, you will need to run heavier cable to the rear to be able to power the DC/DC device properly, and if you are running heavier cable anyway, then you don’t need the DC/DC device.

3 way fridges are a nightmare for the RV industry and are proving to be a huge problem if the tow vehicle is Euro6 compliant, where the vehicle has STOP/START operations.

How do you power a 3 way fridge when the ignition is on but the motor is off?

The reality is that most 3 way fridges do no more than maintain temps when running on 12v.

For those wishing to use a 3 way fridge, in a caravan, in a camper trailer or in the back of their vehicle, there are two primary options.

1). Don’t power the fridge while you are driving.

2). Supply the fridge with it’s own dedicated power supply cabling.

            Option 2 is self-explanatory.

Option 1 is not as crazy as it sounds. Many people towing caravans find that as long as they cool the 3 way fridge down before starting the days drive, they find these fridges stay quite cool, even after a long days drive in northern Australia, in the middle of summer.

              Agree Tim,

I use Option 1 and don't power our 'van fridge whilst on the road. When stopped I light it on gas and when parked-up, again run Gas or 240v power. Haven't even bothered hooking up the 12v feed for the new fridge...

On another note - for those playing at home, if you have your 3-way in the back of the car
PLEASE DON'T run it on gas for obvious reasons....
              Cheers

                Hi Joebloggs.

As afar as cable is concerned make sure the description on the reel says something like 6mm squared or 6mm to power of 2. Just 6mm auto cable is not the same. Misleading and has caught out many people.

                Cheers,
