  • GXL front parking sensors

Wondering if anyone has an update GXL with the front parking sensors added? Are these aftermarket or genuine Toyota? Do they just beep or is there some sort of visual display in the car?

Also, does anyone have an ARB summit bar on a GXL with front sensors?
ARB told me the Toyota ones for a GXL are aftermarket, not genuine Toyota and they don't fit the summit bar because the sensors are a different size to what is required for the bar.

Keen to find out if anyone has this setup and what product they used. Would be a comfort for me so the missus doesn't use the bullbar as a touch parking device.

    Thanks!

OK after reading this thread I think I might just let her touch park with the bar!

I got quoted $575 fitted from toyota, pretty sure that was for silver colour code. No idea whether they were toyota or aftermarket though.

      Will.

I had front ones fitted as part of the purchase and from the dealer 'accessories' list . Same switch type and noise levels but I don't think they are adjustable via the control menu and don't seem to have indicators like the rear ones (I'll have another check). Work well though.

I asked for Front Park Sensors with the new car purchase and Toyota delivered with an aftermarket add-on with a crappy on-off switch installed drilled into a switch blank and not integrated into the system at all.

They were pretty average but worked ok, until we put the TJM T13 bullbar on and the sensor mounts were in different locations. The genuine/toyota VX+ (and hence TJM predrilled locations) have the corner sensors quite close to the corner of the car and the toyota sensors are configured with a closer range on those.

My particular aftermarket kit has all four sensors with the same range settings (centre and corners), so now the thing goes off everytime you pull into a parking spot even though you're a meter away from the neigbouring cars. I did turn the volume right down thinking I might still use it sometimes but it's never been worth it. It's not all bad though the T13 bar gives pretty good visibility for where the front of your car is, just a waste of money on the sensors.

BTW The other feature you lose without integration is the gear detection. The reversing sensors only beep when you are in reverse (makes sense right?). However the aftermarkets will beep even after you've finished your parking manoeuvre and stick the thing in P, then the next time you start the car and go to reverse out. Should be no need for beeps in this scenario...

Current and last model GXL have factory fitted reversing sensors that are integrated, it is the front ones that are an issue.
D4D. How long will it last?

Thanks for the feedback guys. I have decided not to worry about them and confirmed with ARB that my summit bar will NOT have the pre drilled holes in it for sensors.
My last couple of cars had them and they were very good, but they benefitted from a visual display in the car and were also switchable, but automatically turned off once park was engaged. They also disengaged above a certain speed.... 14kmph I think.

I have genuine Toyota front sensors - had them installed pre-delivery. They can be turned on/off independently of the rear sensors

I have just picked up our new prado GXL with aftermarket front sensors fitted to ARB summit bar. I reckon they work well, just not as integrated as my '16 XLT ranger ones, but sill work just as good. They have black rubber heads, but don't look out of place on the colour coded bar (silver).
                  Cheers.

Had them fitted pre-delivery on a GXL. To be honest I wouldn't bother next time as they have no distance to touch indicator other than the sound and are a bit sensitive. It might be alright for a tight park but, given the manoeuvrability of a Prado, tight parking isn't its forte.

Hi, I have a recent purchase of 2015 3lt prado which has front and rear park assist sensors fitted. The rear work fine and I have the on/off switch on the dash under the steering column but the front do not seem to work. They are set in a genuine Toyota bull bar. Can these be turned on/off independently. I have No idea where that might be and can't find anything in the manual about front sensors. Does anyone know how to activate these? Imac059 suggests they can. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know if this will help at all. I bought a 2016/2017 GX Prado second hand, which came with an aluminium roo bar already fitted. But, being a GX, it came without parking sensors.

I added front and rear aftermarket parking sensors, the type with a small LCD showing which sensor is sensing an object and the distance to the closest front and rear obstruction. The four rear sensors and the two outer-front ones work fine. However, the two front inner sensors kept going off, even when there was nothing in their beams. After much investigating, I found that the hollow section that they were mounted in was resonating with the ultrasound pulses and providing false echoes. I tried everything except filling the hollow with expanding foam (maybe that would work?). In the end, I just disconnected the two inner front sensors. Otherwise, the system works fine - I'm glad I installed them.
