  • 2.8GD 6 speed Auto Toyota issue's a front drive train repair bulletin.

Hi I reported a very slight hum which became higher in pitch to a slight whine when at 100kph coming from the front end of my 2015 GLX which had traveled 5000 ish klicks to My Toyota service department at its second and third service. It was being emitted through the steering wheel and pedal box area .The service department was unable to acknowledge this noise when road testing. At the forth service i was advised that there had been a rectification Bulletin issued from Toyota Japan and now they can find the noise I was talking about and can rectify it according to the bulletin. This procedure involved rotating the front prop shaft around from front to back and installing a dampener from Japan on the front diff . This has reduced the noise and ever slight harmonic vibe from the steering wheel to a level i can suffer . Its most noticeable under very light throttle at 100kph but at times is very evident under light load at lesser speeds as if the motor is resonating through the drive train to the steering wheel which was also Toyota's description of the problem. Just strange it increases in pitch at the higher road speed and doesn't change with differing rpm. Maybe the prop shaft was amplifying the engines harmonics and changing its pitch due to a higher prop shaft speed ? Any way if you have the same noise and can feel your motors harmonics through the wheel then report it and they can make it a little better. Im a panel beater who has been in the auto trade over 20 years with a broad knowledge and im very particular . The noise is so slight my wife doesn't know what im on about when she drives the car But the service teck did notice it once knowing what he was listening / feeling for . I can post a copy of the work order if someone wants to advise me how 😊

Just spotted your post after putting in a new post today about a noise. Might be the same thing?? I did not notice any steering wheel vibrations though.

When you can hear the noise there is the faintest change in in the wheel harmonics. No worse than the standard sensation you get through the wheel once you start the car and holding the wheel you can tell its running just at a different frequency. If you drive light footed till you can make the noise come and go with the gas then you will also feel it come and go through wheel .im being anal but i have worked on and driven almost every car known to the Australian market and much cheaper cars dont exhibit the same crap so who should we put up with it from a 65k machine .especially a Toyota 😊
