Geraldton WA 4 wheel drive tracks - member advice

Hi.

I plan to visit the Geraldton region of WA in a few months and am seeking advice from WA members who may have explored this area and can advise some interesting 4 wheel drive tracks to visit.

We will be staying in the town of Geraldton for 4 nights so have plenty of time on our hands.

Yeah I saw MOA in one of Ronny Dahl's 4 wheel driving You TUbe videos but I thought that was too far north. I will have a closer look at its location.

I used to 4WD drive there like 20 years ago with a mighty LJ50 suzuki, however was shocked when I went up there beginning of the year and some of the old easy accessible haunts where blocked off with barriers not just signs diverting people to boring stretches, I went south of Greenough River while the tracks in the dunes where ok the beach work was ardours with bottomless sand (Landrover got bogged to the point had to get a "recovery Troopy" to get him out), went to the ARB store there and had a chat with a guy there he said that ATVs kind of destroyed 4WD going places as they where making to much noise and being nuisances that it kind of stuffed it up for most people whether that was real just scuttle butt or not. Maybe contact some fishing stores up there as most of those guys go 4WD and fishing.

Never been to Geraldton but my brother in law was there recently and had his 70 series ute lightened when some locals broke into it and made off with his very full 70 litre fridge.

There are some very scenic beach runs. Head north from coronations beach car park or head south from flat rocks carpark. There is also a slightly more challenging run that I have only done part of that heads south from coronations back towards Geraldton. Both of these follow tracks close to the beach and at times are on the beach. Make sure that you take a compressor and possibly maxtraks. Both of these are pretty popular for surfers and fishers.

Southgates through to Greenough is a nice little diversion. Plenty of dunes and tracks to explore.

No worries. Also check out North Head and Sandy Cape on your way up. Good camping spots and nice tracks
