    Hey,

    From a 2007 FJ Cruiser, same chassis as 120;



    As the 07 US model FJ had the full time 4wd option that isn't available on Oz model FJ's, and as 07 uses same running gear as 120 with full time 4wd, it seems clear that we should be using 75w-90 GL-5 compliant oil in a full time 4wd Prado transfer case (120 or 150).

    This is also what Penrite have recommended to me, as I stated in my original post #12;

    My 120 manual says the same specifications as above for the full time option on p334, so does my Gregorys. I cannot imagine why the 150 transfer specification would be any different.

      Hey all,

      Here's another piece of the puzzle, an independent test of the Toyota SAE 75W LF transfer case oil by Exon Mobil from a 2010 FJ Cruiser;

      Using the 10.6cSt at 100C gives a minimum viscosity of 86 according to;



      As such, the 75W LF Toyota oil is really 75w-86 according to the analysis by Exon Mobil and the above plot.

      I have no explanation why, but if this is the case it suggests the 120 Prado is 75w-90 on the basis of my Toyota manual, and the Oz spec FJ and 150 (sharing same chassis and driveline) would be 75w-85. I'm sure you could use 75w-90 in any of them.

      Also keep in mind 86 is the minimum viscosity at 100C, it could be higher.
