I have a somewhat weird situation with a 2010 Prado 150 and an incorrect Diff Centre. I have owned the vehicle since new and it was in a minor accident that hit right on the rear diff and bent it. The diff was replaced by the insurance company, and has been fine until recently when the crown and pinion ended up with several stripped teeth.
When replacing the crown and pinion, the parts were identified from the VIN number to make sure they were correct, but they were different to what was installed the now damaged Diff Centre. It appears that the crown and pinion are from an 8 Inch diff and not an 8.2 Inch diff which is the correct diff from the factory.
From what I have been able to work out from much reading on the internet, the existing Diff Centre appears to be from a Prado 120 or 4 Runner and I am hoping that I can just get a new/2nd hand 150 Diff Centre.
If anyone knows if the diff centre between a Prado 120 and 150 have the same bolt pattern or are completely different it would be a huge help. Given that the diff housing was replaced in the accident and the 120 and 150 have a different track width, I am hoping that the housing is from a 150, but with a 120 Diff Centre.
Another consideration would be the axles and number of splines etc.
The only issue I have is that the vehicle is 3 hours away and the only way to check would be to drive there and take some measurements/photos to get a part number.
Any help would greatly be appreciated and save me from having to buy a complete diff with axles.
