  • Engine stalling

On a recent trip to Sydney the engine in our 2012 Altitude (50000km) stalled on three separate occasions for no apparent reason. It hasn't done it before or since.
We had driven for 2 hours then stopped for about 25 minutes for breakfast. Hopped into the vehicle, started as normal, into Drive then slowly move out of the parking spot. Moved about 2 metres and it stalled. Cranked it over but no luck, may have not selected N. Gathered thoughts, P selected for sure, more cranking (20 seconds). More thinking, more cranking and after about 10 seconds fires into life!
Drive for another 5 days with various duty cycles and stop lengths and no issues.
Then after driving for about 2 hours through the Sydney rain (torrents at times) we stop for lunch for about 25 minutes and it stalls on departure as previous. This time straight into P and it starts after similar effort of cranking.
We overnight in Cooma with a temperature around 9 degrees when we go to leave in the morning. It stalls after moving about 2 metres and restarts after the above procedure.
Took it to the dealer for a service and to check it out on return home. The following Diagnostic report was provided:

(Hot and Cold injector data on my "The values look OK to me...." thread.)

They said no issues found, maybe some dirty fuel or blocked fuel filter. My response was new between tank filter and new additional filter element (Donaldson additional filter inline before factory filter) fitted by them 7000km ago so unlikely.
They say OK, monitor it and call back if it happens again.
    Anybody had a similar occurrence?

I had same problem, i changed pre filter to a 10 micron unit and no more problem. I assume that i either closed up a small air leak or the finer filter was causing the issue.

Before changing the filter the starter would wind for longer also, i guess for the same reasons.

        Mine is a racor unit

yeah sounds like you're getting air into the lines. Next time you have the issue, stop the cranking and try the primer pump and see how long it takes to go hard.
