Check your counter-balance shaft and gears, ours failed due to a bolt shearing off and destroyed the oil pump gear resulting in no oil pressure

Got the D4D blues, Oh what a feeling ;-(

Once I get the Harmonic Balancer off I will get to see any damage in the front part.

If the engine has run with a failed bearing, there may be many potential issues. Why would an engine spin a bearing anyway?

Hope you're right. The others in the other thread have replaced their engine.

Possibly, but this ain't some common old iron V8. I would be talking to an engine shop to see what oversize bearings and shyte were available for it before I went too far. I guess if you are pulling it down you will know soon enough. IDK if there is much spare meat in these engines to grind away, or what oversize bearings are available? Anyone know anyone who knows?

Engines are not worth the hassle.
    Long motor from Toyota $8000.

Comes with injectors, pipes, waterpump, tappet cover on, etc. made in Japan.
no risk of some bodgy freebies, no oil leaks, no burning oil. That what u get with rebuilds.
A new heart for the beast, new genuine parts.

    All the best.

That's why we went new long engine,.... dodgy rebuild $4,500, new injectors $1,500 = $6,000 + new water pump + timing belt + gaskets etc + labour.
Another couple of grand and you've got a brand new donk.

    OK so a quick update.
Finally got the harmonic balancer off (what an enormous task that was)
Once that was off I was able to remove the front gear cover. I soon found out why the oil light was on.
The oil pump drive gear is damaged (order a new one.)

Both balance shafts are stuffed and one balance shaft gear.
From my investigations you cant buy bearings for these as they are pressed into the block.
You can buy replacement balance shafts and gears but not the bearings.
I have found on the hilux forum that a few people have removed them with no issue.

Why would Toyota design and install balance shafts if there was 'no issue'?

Are you sure? If so, just pull them out and let us know what the results are...
