  • Crazy gremlins- Electrical mayhem

I just finished putting new 50mm lift Springs on my 2010 Prado 150 D4D VX with 100k km. KDSS suspension, A/T tranny.

About 3 weeks ago my alternator died mid trip and the dealership replaced it with an oem Toyota alternator.

Today at the completion of the lift we lowered the truck levelled it and balanced the kdss system, bled the entire brake system due to the new full braided line upgrade and started the truck for a quick shake down drive.

First off the truck did a stutter start that sounded odd followed by the traction control warning light, abs, locking diff light and self levelling lights warnings. I reset the ecu by removing power for 30 minutes and check the obd II for any codes....none.

Now while driving tonight to allow a reset of sensors all of the window control leds on the controls began to flash and the dash hud fails to show front wheel position.

Now all of this could not be related to spring and brake line change. Is it possible the ecu and electrical system is giving a delayed response to the fried rectifier failure in the alternator? Or do I have a failure that has been seen before?

Did you damage any abs lines?
How did you read the codes?

Windows are because the battery was disconnected. Need to be operate from fully closed to fully open and closed again to learn the travel limits for the auto open and close function.

I shorted points 4 & 13 in the OBD, turned on the ignition and pumped the brake 2 times per second in 8 sets, the code was 22 (read by flashing ABS light) indicating pass front line shorted or open. I checked the line and it was intact but I was unable to do an A/C voltage or resistance test due to my multi-meter being lent out until tomorrow.

I should be reading 250mv AC with the wheel turning, or 850-2.2 Kohms across the sensor?

In addition now the AFS off (headlight steering control) is flashing as well.

The ABS wire on the pass side front was pulled tight slightly, but not damaged or broken. Once I get the multimeter tomorrow, I will test the cable, maybe it pulled out of the connector pin? Additionally, now my stereo light is going off and on intermittently and the LCD is blanking as well but probably unrelated.

Would one bad ABS sensor really light up the dash like this?

        Thanks for the quick responses.

I recall an issue with Toyota ABS units being damaged with back flow fluid in the brake system if you compress the piston while changing pads without bleeding pressure at the caliper, but when we installed the new lines we bled with the old two man method. Ignition off, one man on the bleed nut the other on the pedal.

I'll check the sensor line in the morning.

Any advice where to get the new sensor and line (all one unit on mine) if indeed it is broken? Can a good solder splice work on this line if required?

            Ah, I think I mis-read the code

22 — Open or short in ABS solenoid for left front wheel.

That is not a sensor, but the solenoid...meaning air in the ABS? Any suggestions on bleeding a possible air bubble from the ABS? Take in out and lock up the front wheels, then manual bleed again?

I'll do it, if it is all that simple.

I'd suggest getting a code reader plugged in to confirm the correct codes.

Your possibly misreading and over thinking the issue.

Thx, I used a BOSCH OBDII code reader, but no CEL codes or anything it can read popped. I just ordered an IT2 with O-scope from NSW. Should have it in hand by next week so I can go through the MFG codes and do a true diagnosis.
